i5-5400 vs FX-8350

Looking to upgrade to the LGA 1151 socket, and get the 6400. Would I see a performance difference?

Yes, you would see a large difference in games, though I don't know how large considering you are using a GTX 750Ti.

Going from a V6 to an in-line 4? Yes. Probably a few frames in games and programs, but an SSD might be a better choice if you don't have one.

They you should 100% upgrade to a 4th or 6th gen Core i5 CPU with that GPU upgrade.

I don't think you will have a bottleneck on a Core i5 with any modern GPU.

If there's a bottleneck, getting a lower end gpu to rid the bottleneck just lost you even more performance.

K. I play on my 3570K at 1440p no problem. It never breaks a sweat and sits maximum at 80% in any game I play. But I have been playing overwatch a lot recently, and that I can run at max settings and I think the only thing that is keeping me back is my GPU. Which keeps me at ~90FPS.

1440p is fine. 1080p is a different story.

 

As for Overwatch, that game loves CPU. Your CPU is the bottleneck in that situation.

yeah, the 8350 is a waste of time, and would likely bottleneck most modern GPU's. Go with a 6400. I'll probably look at upgrading to a 6500 from my 6100 in a year or two though.

With a 750Ti you will see no gain with a i5 over FX, you need something better than 1060 to tell them apart... :P (just do yourself a favor and wait for Zen or next lake...) :D

Even though it is never at full load but my GPU is? Makes no sense. Also, how is 1080p is different story, it has less pixels.

Considering the people I play with have lesser GPUs (GTX 980, R9 290X) than I do, but better CPUs and they are getting so many less frames at lower resolutions (At the same scaling that the GPU performance gap is). So if there is a bottleneck it is very limited. 

But I know there is not, because overwatch is programmed to use all CPU available up to 6 cores, until it needs less. So if the game did need more CPU power, I would be pinned to max usage and have high temps. But I have neither, and no stutters in the games.

Again, I'm leaving the 750Ti behind and going get a new one. Would I see a good change with a 970?

The main reason why I'm leaving the 8350 Is because the socket (AM3+) Is dead. Do you think It would pair nicely good with a 970?

The main reason why I'm leaving the 8350 Is because the socket (AM3+) Is dead. Do you think It would pair nicely good with a 970?

Go with the 1060. 970 is no longer a good card considering that the less expensive 1060 has more VRAM and gets more frames.

 

If you want to upgrade now, go with the 6400 and GTX 1060.

If you want to wait until Zen, I'd get just the 1060.

Yes here is some difference in games but only if you use a powerful graphics card like GTX 970 or GTX 1060. Even at 1440p FX bottlenecks in some games.

In most cases you should be fine even a 1080p and at 1440p you will see even less of a difference. ;) (some games such as GTA requires fixes such as "shadows to medium, foliage should not be to high & EDS should be lowest" but EDS should be on lowest no matter what AMD product you use in GTA V CPU or GPU. :P
