Gtx 1060 isn't boosting while folding

So I decided to start folding recently, and I noticed that while my gpu was at 99/100% load, the clock speed never goes above about 1600 (during gaming it boosts to about ~2000) and afterburner reports that this is because of the "No Load Limit", even though, as stated above, the gpu is being utilized 100%

OS: Arch Linux w/ XFCE DE (Kernel 5.6.15 VFIO) as host OS, windows 10 as guest

CPU: Ryzen 9 3900X w/PBO on (6c 12t for host, 6c 12t for guest)

Cooler: Noctua NH-D15

Mobo: Asus X470-F Gaming

RAM: 32GB G-Skill Ripjaws V @ 3200MHz (8GB for host, 24GB for guest)

GPU: Guest: EVGA GTX 1060 SC Host: 2x Radeon HD 8470

PSU: EVGA G2 650W

SSDs: Guest: Samsung 850 evo 120 GB, Samsung 860 evo 1TB Host: Samsung 970 evo 500GB NVME

Details: 12GB ram, GTX 1080, USB card passed through to windows 10 VM. VM's virtdisk is on the SSD. Rest of resources are for Plex, urBackup, Gitlab, Nextcloud, and game servers.

How Long has it been folding?

if it's just at 0.00% right now (which usually takes a while on your first WU) it might just haven't kicked in.

Get Nvidia inspector, open the OC tab, click on the dropdown menu at the top (the one that says performance level) and then take a print of the whole app. I wanna check a few things...

This dude right here just had to reinstall his Drivers but difference to you is that he also couldnt reach boost clock in games.

This other guy here had to uninstall Precision X for some weird reason and then it worked.

Dont worry happens sometimes to my gtx 1070 too. Its because nvidias cards arent made for folding purposes in the first place. They do it fine but its not their purpose

AHA. Good and bad news here.

 

Good news: Just as I thought, your card is going into P2 rather than P0. When doing compute work, it won't trigger the full boost state. In a sense, this is kinda expected, given that the same thing happens on Maxwell (and Pascal is just Maxwell on steroids). If you take a look at your memory, you'll see that it's running slower than what it is supposed to, just like the 9xx cards.

 

Bad news: Unlike Maxwell, however, the boost clock seems to be lower too. With 9xx, only the memory runs slower, the core clock stays the same as the P0 state.

 

And more bad news here: there's nothing you can do about it, as far as changing the P state goes. Unless you do some driver hacking, it'll just use P2, period.

 

You can try to "OC" the card back to the correct value, if you want. Try OCing P0 and see if that works (which I don't expect it will, but...) or if that fails, change the dropdown to P2 and try to OC there. Flashing a custom Bios with a modified boost table will be an option as well, once "Pascal Bios tweaker" eventually gets released to the world.
