will a 2700k bottleneck a 1070?

Davidf4e

It shouldn't if you overclock and bump up the resolution to 1440p

It will probably bottleneck a little in CPU heavy games like GTA V running at 1080p. That being said, it should perform quite beautifully for most things, and even in GTA V, the game should be very playable with occasional dips below 60fps.

When in doubt, re-format.

You would get worse fps then a 6700k, yes.

But it's not a "bottleneck" because a 1070 will still perform better than a 1060.

asking for a friend

If your friend has a 60Hz monitor @1080p... that will be the bottleneck almost all the time.

If he has the money and "wants" it, tell him to go for it.  Sooner or later that CPU will get replaced and the 1070 will be usable for a long time.

Aka, it will be a bottleneck but not a major one....

Uh, no,

If it was a real bottleneck then the 1070 would perform the same as a 1060 which would perform the same as something even worse.

Whoever first coined the term "bottleneck" to explain a PC component limitation should be slapped... twice!

well... using a c2d with a GTX 1080 is very likely to be an actual "bottleneck" in most if not all workloads.

beyond that, i wouldnt dare to say for sure, but some other people just think they know everything that there is to know in this universe. (someone actually claimed that on this forum once...)
