Worth for gaming loading times? Compatible?

I wanna get myself a new SSD for gaming, faster loading times and performance. Is it worth it?

Samsung 256GB 950 PRO SSD, M.2, NVMe, 2200/900 MB/s 

Also is it compatible with this motherboard?

 

Asus Z170i PRO GAMING, LGA1151, Intel Z170, DDR4, mITX

As a person who went from a Hard Drive to an SSD. Game load times didn't really change a lot. It's negligible. Overall system responsiveness is what changed.

Load times for games can change from a LOT to a LITTLE, but if you don't have an SSD for your OS, buy one for your OS and have some space left over for certain games that it would work better with.

It can improve, maybe around 10-20 seconds less, depending on the change and how speedy the SSD is. But yeah, the SSD should have the system embedded onto it, to maximize speed potential, otherwise it has to go get the game to the other drive and that would impact load times i presume negatively.

As a person who went from a Hard Drive to an SSD. Game load times seemed to half in almost everything I play. Open world games benefit from it the most.

I'll measure it if you want but I haven't noticed a difference in almost any game.

Thing is: Im having an EVO SSD for my Win10 OS already. THat´s cool and all, I was just wondering if it would help if f.e. Battlefield, or any bigger loading game would come from an NVMe SSD

Not really. The difference between a SATA 3 SSD and an NVMe SSD is even harder to notice.

Every game loads faster on the SSD, its just more noticeable with some than others.

If you're using a 5400RPM drive vs an 850 Pro sure. It's easy to notice. but if you compare a more recent 7200 or 10 000 RPM drive to an average SSD then the difference is not really noticeable in games.

Yeah, I call major bull on that video. Sorry but even my 5400RPM drive loads faster than the "7200 RPM" one. I'll record it and show you as soon as my GPU is back.

I tried Battlefield 4 on my own , running it from an HDD and it took 4,34 mins o load shanghai...
The SDD took about a minute....

Exactly, GTA 5 for me takes around 30 ish seconds on my SSD. On my HDD it took over a minute

SSD's are proven to be way faster. So unless you're using an older SATA connection, load times will benefit from it

BUT - games don't scale linearly as the OS and it HEAVILY depends on WHERE on the drive your game is. Watch the video

Both my OS and game are on my SSD. Neither are partitioned as far as im aware. The video's I linked support my claim.

SSD should NOT be partitioned. That only applies to HDDs.

Not every game will, as I said, open world games do significantly, which is what I said.

I also said that EVERY game loaded faster on the SSD, which they do, even if its only a second or two
