I mean if you really want to send this forward to a major tech youtuber go ahead, but expect to be ignored or simply get a rushed out poorly written answer due to the lack of evidence with our case

I think the next step for people who thinks this is a issue perhaps record some gameplay, make comparisons with other videos. 

 

The reason why this issue has been ignored for so many years is because there is no evidence supporting that this is an actual issue, so perhaps if we gather some evidence we might get noticed that is if this is a real issue the only thing is how.?

Your right. We need side by side comparisons. Does anyone here not have the issue and a copy of no man's sky and a few other games to test this with?

I forgot to mention LTT has explained this issue in a older video on TechQuickie but he doesnt really describe it is an issue but just a normal thing

Yeah If I could i would use TAA, but most games dont have it, FXAA should work fine in most cases but it doesnt for me, this wouldnt fix blocky shadows/draw distance issues, and for me TAA causes z fighting(in no man's sky anyways havent tested it anywhere else) Atleast part of this issue has a name now besides edge shimmering, Temporal aliasing and anti aliasing just not working for some reason.

I dont think just the jaggies are caused by Temporal Aliasing, I think the lod pop in can be caused by it too just by reading this snippet on the page about it on wikipedia

 

"Temporal anti-aliasing (TAA) seeks to reduce or remove the effects of temporal aliasing. Temporal aliasing is caused by the sampling rate (i.e. number of frames per second) of a scene being too low compared to the transformation speed of objects inside of the scene; this causes objects to appear to jump or appear at a location instead of giving the impression of smoothly moving towards them."

 

Look at the bold text, sounds exactly like lod pop in also im fairly sure the blocky shadows are caused by bad lod aswell.

 

Now I am not sure if TAA will fix the lod problem as you said, but it does sound like temporal aliasing is causing the lod problem

For me Low LOD happens regardless of AA. FXAA seems to have little effect on aliasing and almost makes it worse, TAA fixes some aliasing but causes bad z fighting and shimmering over the entire image when i turn it on. The farther away the object is the worse the shimmering is.

Yes TAA Im pretty sure can cause some weird side effects like ghosting and stuff like that, not sure about zfighting and shimmering over the whole image tho. For me TAA fixes the jaggies for me but I havent really got a chance to test the whole LOD side of things. You should maybe try TAA / Filmic SMAA in other games that support it since you say you have only tested it in No Mans Sky. I think I have heard something like TAA doesnt work as well in some games than others.

Anyways i want to try to design some experiments to try to find a cause and way to reproduce the issue. Will you help and try them for me once i make them?

Can someone with this issue report how fidelityfx super resolution looks? Does it fix it or atleast help cover it up?

Okay, another hypothesis time. Maybe its RF interference from wifi? Because my PC is right next to my router and therefore, due tot he inverse square law, The wifi will be stronger near the router exponentially then farther away from it. Maybe i can try moving the router a bit or try unplgging it and see if that fixes it?

No all of these ideas are so far fetched and illogical. The issue is software dependent. The first step is to see if you can isolate it to an OS. If the issue persists across Windows, Mac, and Linux then you know it's unique to the device driver. If you use drivers past the date the first reported incident happened you know it's not the drivers and potentially firmware that was updated. Could be a byproduct of a microcode update from spector/meltdown. If that doesn't work it's going to take side by side testing to see if identical setups can achieve different results. If this occurs then it's just finding what's different and you should be able to find the cause.

Again this is a hypothesis for what might cause the issue. All of this still needs to be verified. But how would a software issue persist between system formats? Maybe people have been just reinstalling windows which doesnt fully reinstall windows, but instead windows does some sort of fast reinstall that only installs some things? Has anyone tried nuking their drive and installing linux and seeing if that fixes it?

Man, it is the worst feeling ever to see recent replies to a thread about this from 2016. I've had this issue for almost over a year, and its been persistent on 2 different pcs I purchased, one that I built, and a prebuilt Alienware. This shit sucks

 

Also, dunno if im just schizophrenic or if its worth mentioning, this issue started on the computer I built around the exact day I got a razer mouse. I know that it had me install a driver for it, but I had wiped the alienware and used a new mouse after I wiped it, and still had the issues (horrible LOD draw distance and jagged lines).

Because, improvement or worsening aside, the issues addressed in that video are normal and known problems. They are the reason the various AA schemes exist, to try and minimise those problems.

Yeah, pretty sure that this is temporal aliasing.

 

The jaggies freak out only in motion for most people who have this issue and even the video has this.

Yeah, i usually blame the game/game engine. I had similar issue with Assetto Corsa long time ago.
