best headphones for around $150aud

Hanksy
Go to solution Solved by windss,

If you are talking most accurate in that price range then I would also be looking at the Shure 440, AKG 240MKII's or the Sony 7506 and the HD280 pro as well. They are all within a bulls roar of each other on the FR graph so it's just a matter of preference.

I'd go for HD280 for rock.. personal preference

Looking for some new headphones for music and gaming

Aint no such thing as "the best headphone" in any price range.

Like ShearMe said, we would like to know what kinds of music to listen to. Classical, Pop, and Metal are all completely different and will dictate what headphone will be best for you.

There is such a thing as most accurate, which is equivalent to best. What kind of music one listens to and what suits that better is personal preference.

I reckon you might be right. For rock you want something that has flat midrange and clear highs but not overly sharp. The ATH m50 and the shure 440 both have a small hump at 300Hz. As much as I like the 7506's I think the 280 will be better. Apparently they do take a while to burn in and until they do the mids will over power the bass making it feel like there is no bass however it should come good. I've used the 7506's and only listened to the 280's, So as always if you can get to a shop a give them a listen that's the best advice. Go to a bigger jbhifi store, they will have the HD280pro on display.

You don't really know what you are saying, please don't go throwing around statements like this.

How much are AD700x's in your area? Check out DT990's as well. (80 ohm).

they'd both be out of his price range here I'm afraid.  In Aus. we tend to get the raw end of all the deals.  About the only other suggestions I'd have for this price range are the HD439 or maybe the AKG k142HD if you can hear them somewhere (though these are a stretch IMO, right price but how they sound is "individual")

I'd go with the HD558. Very comfortable, with fun but accurate sound.

I went the hd280 thanks for your help everyone

Cool, after they have burnt in, can you let us know how they are going. I like to get as much feedback as possible, it helps when making suggestions.
