To reiterate

1 : It's not worth the money given the pricing of the TXM, FOCUS Gold, and sale/refurb G2/RMx/GtHrEeEeEeEeEeEeE/whatever

2 : Cable management with non-modular PSUs can be a pain especially in smaller cases; even 1 extra cable can cause problems in a small uATX case, etc.

3 : The Formula has some weird PFC stuff IIRC

$80 for a multirail modular 550W? With the TX550M at $44 and the RM550x a few bucks more I'll pass thanks. Also, it doesn't seem to have been much cheaper in the past year (at least the 550w)

RMx for $59 omg there's no way we get those deals on mexico

Yeah lol I had a friend who actually flew to the USA and bought his parts there cause it was cheaper than getting them in Mexico

Why do you mention multirail as if it's a disadvantage?

It can be done well but often isn't and generally multirail units don't hit as tight voltages as good single rails (i.e. Bitfenix Formula vs RMx, G2, etc)

You were mentioning a specific unit - Whisper M, so why use a generalization as an argument? It has multi-rail done well.

It would be like saying "nVidia GPUs can be fast, but often aren't. Don't buy GTX1080."

That's wrong - multi rail literally doesn't affect voltage regulation as all. It's just extra current sensors wired to the protection IC.

Be that as it may I'm not wrong. That may not be a super strong argument but I think a $60 RMx is

I'd call it a $80 RMx with a $20 rebate, but yeah I'd prefer to have that over a $80 Whisper with no rebate too.

Hey everyone, I've narrowed down my search for a new PSU and would like some advice on their performance relative to one another; this is disregarding the wattage (all are more than sufficient for my build) and price, I'm just curious about stability / protection / noise (though this is less important) / etc.

Seasonic X-650

EVGA 650 G2

Seasonic Prime Gold 650

EVGA 750 PQ

Thanks so much for your time and any assistance, it's been pretty hard finding comparisons for these models that use the same equipment / methodology!

What are you talking about? multirail has nothing to do with voltage regulation. It simply means the 12V rail is splitted for safety

Stop believing everything you here, it doesn't apply to all cases

Well as I said I was purposefully disregarding those things as I've seen some nasty arguments spawn up that digress from the original request, and also as they're not really important as these PSUs are selected because I have very good deals available to me for each of them. But to answer your question:

Country: USA

Budget: <$80

PC: OCed 2600 / 1060 6gb

Again, yes 650w or 750w is notably more than is necessary for this build. The above models were mentioned explicitly because I can get them cheaper than their lower wattage equivalents. Those models were also selected because their various price points are enticing enough relative to maxing my budget for the "gain" from something like a RM850x (currently $80 on Newegg) etc. My original question wasn't geared towards recommendations so much as it was towards the comparison of a handful of Tier 1/2 units.

Hello everyone, this is my first time posting here on the forums. I live in Egypt and many PC parts here have all sorts of weird prices (so i will import parts from amazon). My current PC is kind of dead, the hd 7770 card took a dive in the land of not working. The i3 2120 served me well and i think it is time for it to retire. While still debating whether i should get a used 3rd gen i5 , or build a new Ryzen rig. I want to know what would be a great PSU to replace the 460 w Thermaltake that came with the case. System specs may change depending on amazon prices and black Friday : Ryzen 5 1600 / 8gb ddr4 ram / 2 x 3 tb WD hdd / 1060 6gb or rx 580 8gb / any cheap Asus mobo. What is the best PSU all things considered ? if you suggest something more expensive that may last 7 years or more, I could save a bit  extra and get it. Thanks a lot for all the help.

Thanks a lot. I found the RM550x on Amazon for 92 us dollars, what is the difference between it and the Evga supernova 750 g2, or any other PSU from other well-known brands?

I am asking because I want to know more about PSUs, as the last time I built a pc was in 2011.

Different platforms, G2 is noisier. Practically not much although 750w is totally unnecessary, get a 550w instead. Also IMO dont buy 8GB of RAM, save a little longer and get 16

550W Bitfenix Whisper M is only 79 Dollars on Newegg.

The difference between PSU are that they are developed by different engineers with different goals in mind. So they look completely different...

Some are louder than others, some are better than others...

But right now there is something for everyone...

I have been debating for the past 24h between those two PSU's, I need help to decide lol.

EVGA Supernova G3 650w

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=500

Seasonic Focus Plus 650w

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=524

I am still using my PC built in 2011 with a 2500k, 550w PSU but upgraded my GPU 2 years ago for a R9 390 Strix.

I am having a LOT of coil whine when gaming and I have had shutdowns while gaming in the past, I think its time to upgrade my powersupply.

Both are priced similar

EVGA 109.99 CAD

Seasonic 112.98 CAD

What do you guys think?
