Go to solution Solved by Spotty,

This is a legacy list. It is no longer being updated.

The new CM units in general I haven't seen much of in the wild. I think most of them are fairly mediocre but the regular MasterWatt I added to T2 a day or two ago.

Is there any info about where the FSP Aurum S 500W 80+ Gold goes into the list?

Thanks.

http://www.fsplifestyle.com/home/product.php?AreaLang=0&PSN=571

Same as normal Aurum, probably a bit Cheaper due to some changes.

But besides that, nothing new.

Same Group regulated shit and thus should be avoided...

There's only one review for a unit and it's in chinese so good beats.

But considering its load distribution, the year of its release and this review, it's probably tier 5, 4 at best. This is an educated guess. The 5-year warranty is at least something.

Well, its just an Aurum, more or less.

Depends on the Wattage.

Some are Standard Group Regulated HEC units, others are DC-DC

In general I'd prefer the be quiet System Power 9 because its more clear when they use DC-DC or not - 400W and Up.

With the MWE its not so clear to me. And I think its only on the Higher Wattages...

Platform the same as the Cougar LX600 (made by HEC probably), according to Orion. (can't find that model in realhardtechx)

Apparently it's very similar to the 700B / 650BQ / 750BQ

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/cooler-master-mwe-budget-psus,35557.html

Well, they are very similar. But the normal Master Watt has many changes to the plattform - for example less capacitors on +12V and thus also lower capacitance...

Performance should be OK and well within spec, nothing special though.
Well, if we are talking about a model with DC-DC...

And according to a Dutch man in Jonny's Forum the switch from Group regulated to DC-DC is at 600W or so...

DC-DC shouldn't be necessary under 400W though, I don't think. Because the crossloads are less extreme.

I've seen other Pics of that unit IIRC, and those were ChengX. So avoid.

Any user needs at least a PSU that won't randomly die, kill something when it dies, allow your computer enough time to make an emergency dump when the power is cut, not wear your components over time with bad ripple, etc.

But I'd say only the high-end users really need the best of the best in terms of PSUs.

I'd at least get something in the T4 area minimum. You need a good PSU to make sure it protects you, doesn't randomly shut off or explode. The units there are pretty cheap already, such as the S12II for $30. But you could get the CX450/CX450M for that price right now, and those are T3, so get that.

Good PSU increases the lifetime of all Components.

Bad PSU decreases the Lifetime of all Components.

So everybody should use good PSU...

Do you not have a dGPU? Then you're probably find using something like an EVGA 450B. If you do, try getting something T3 and up, T2 or above is preferable if you have an XX80 series Nvidia GPU and for most AMD GPUs (as they tend to consume more power and produce more heat).

But no, someone using an i3 with an iGPU doesn't need a Seasonic Snow Silent, or whatever.

Hi, iam from spain and i have a dilema with 2 PSUs, one is Tier 1(EVGA Supernova G2 750W 80 Plus Gold Modular) and the another one i believe is... Tier 2?(Thermaltake Toughpower Grand RGB 750W 80 Plus Gold Modular). I like boths but being honest i like more the design from thermaltake (RGB fan + pointing it to inside the cage instead of outside) so i would like to know if there is too much difference between those 2 being one T1 and the another T2, there is just 10€ difference so in this case it isnt a problem, iam running a system with 1x Aorus Extreme 1080 TI and 8700k both overclocked so i guess any of both PSUs will be overkill for this setup, but 650w cost like as much as 750w, maybe 5€ difference so there is no reason to get 650w over 750w. Thanks in advice and sorry for my bad english ;).

Both should be decent.

Sadly the thermaltake isn't tested, but should be somewhat decent as well.

If you like the look of the RGB fan, go for it. It's not like it's a bad unit, just slightly worse in electrical performance and probably build quality.

Looks like it fails the 3.3V rail advanced transient response tests.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/seasonic-ssr-750fx-focus-plus-750-gold-psu,5206-8.html

Everything else is fucking amazing. So yeah, probably T1 though we could be strict and call it T2 because of bad 3.3V transient response.

Performance is within 1% of the RMx according to tomshardware's rating (not sure how it's calculated).

But it's pretty noisy, especially compared to the former. The 750W model uses a 120mm fan, which serves the purpose of making it very compact for a 750W, but also means the fan has to spin fAAAAAAAAAAAAAst.
