Upgrade Path for Graphics Card

Hey everybody,

My current configuration is as follows:

AMD FX-9590 @ Stock Speed

ASRock 990FX Extreme9 Motherboard

2x GTX-770 SLI EVGA SC

32 GB DDR3 1866Mhz G. Skill Sniper

500 GB Boot SSD (2x 250GB Samsung EVO 840 SSD in Raid 0)

2 TB Western Digital Black HD

I will typically upgrade the video cards every other generation... I'm looking at the GTX-1070 as a possible upgrade but I'm concerned about dimishing returns because i'm running an older CPU... I'm also looking at the RX-480 from AMD however i'm wondering if it's not worth the performance increase to spend money on that card...

The only game I'm having issues running right now is Doom... the Nvidia optimized config is terrible... and it's playable running at med-high settings but i have to make sure to turn off other features...

Every other game I have is playable at either high or ultra.

That being said I have a couple of options:

1. Upgrade to a GTX-1070 or GTX-1080 with my current config...

2. Upgrade to 2x RX-480 in Crossfire with my current config...

3. Sit on my current configuration because it's not worth upgrading yet and there's plenty of life left in the my current configuration. Upgrade maybe next year and do a CPU, MB, Ram & Video Card Upgrade.

I'm leaning toward option 3 because i feel like options 1 and 2 aren't worth it with my current configuration and would just be a waste of money...

Thoughts?

Thanks

AJ

Option three sounds good. You may see what AMD offers with Vega and you can upgrade to Kaby Lake once the prices stabilise. Either that or Zen.

You shouldn't get any diminishing returns with your PC, you should be fine to do what ever you'd like
