Phone Broke - iPhone 7 or Budget Phone

JLCitadel

Should i get the new iphone 7 thats coming out (i have an iphone 6 that i dropped and shattered the screen on) or a budget phone? (Moto X) im not paying for the phone, my father is, and we can afford it, however im struggling to find any reason to get the iphone 7, considering the price, now that ive had an iphone for a while. I switched from galaxy because the bloat was too much so i wanted to switch to an iphone which ive enjoyed the experience on far more, however ive been told cyanogen mod can prrovide the same experience and i believe the moto phones come with it. Open to any suggestions or perspectives on my situation.

For starters, Moto phones come with almost pure Android.

Secondly, I'd personally say the OnePlus 3. It's a pretty solid phone.

i have tmobile and jump insurance so im elligable for an upgrade. This phone will never be paid off, nor would the next iphone i get. Essentially perminantly $30 per month (28 cause i negotiated it down from 31 6+ version) however if it was a moto i would pay it off and keep it, if it didnt break.

Because fixing an Iphone's screen costs as much as a new phone...

Kinda sad isn't it. But when I broke the screen on my Moto G (2014) it costed us like $60 to get the parts and tools for me to repair it. That phone was on sale for like $170 when we got it.

Frankly since the iPhone 7 isn't even technically a thing yet. I'd say if OP doesn't want to get a 6S or another phone from TMo running Android.

My ramblings about why I'm not aboard that T-Mobile fan train. Which doesn't include my mediocre experience with them through an MVNO because it's totally possible that it could've just been my Moto G 2014 and not TMo's MVNO service even though I doubt it.

Spoiler

I'm not quite sure how jump works because I'm perfectly fine not being able to get the latest greatest. I think a Galaxy S6 will get me to the end of 2017 maybe the middle of 2018 with little issues (hopefully). Also Verizon has fast LTE in my area and seems to also have pretty good coverage when we go to rural places in Minnesota or out of state to even more rural places. Yeah having to pay $15/GB if you go over even 1kb over your data limit is kinda dumb and should be like a smaller per megabyte used over the data limit charge rather in expensive and large per GB charges. Data limits don't bother me either since sharing 12GB between my mom and I is pretty easy.

Only reason we have tmobile is because my parents have a grandfathered 10 year plan for 50 a month for unlimited everything + 10 per extra line.

You can get the wood back "case" not panel at checkout

You pay out you dont have to pay monthly like contract

a.) It runs its own version of CyanogenMod or Android which ever you feel like calling it, called OxygenOS which is basically CM or stock android

b.) Unless Tmo sells it, then you'll have to buy it from OnePlus

c.) Type-C is new and I guess for a lot of people they find it a deal breaker if it doesn't have Type C. But because of how new it is support is going to be hit or miss. Micro USB is more universal. Type-C just can theoretically provide more power to the phone and has more features but for a lot of cases it does a lot of the same thing Micro USB does, but I guess better. But right now Type-C is still in its infancy though quickly becoming more commonplace. So I don't think it really matters because by the time you'll upgrade again, there might be some new USB standard that improves upon the last one or there'll be better support for the one that you got so infatuated with even though it was still really new and not much was really there for it.

d.) Yeah, like a case or a skin from a third party.

That's pretty good actually, I could understand not leaving or wanting to leave for that reason. I still think Tmo was pretty clever about how they made their whole deal sound. Honestly it seems like it actually complicates things even though it's still kinda a nice thing at the same time because it's like a contract but its also like a loan. At least ETFs (Early Termination Fees) are becoming more of a thing of the past mostly due to that whole uncarrier stuff by Tmo which I thought were dumb. Especially when carriers started doing that contract loan thing too.

Yeah I'll probably be with T mobile for life, when my parents pass, it will be just me taking over the plan, for $50 a month + phone cost + $10 for insurance, with excellent coverage & reception. Anyhow, yeah I think i'll be stuck getting the iPhone 7 because I need to buy through t mobile so that its covered with jump. (Gotta contact them and check online see what they have in stock and if i could put jump on a phone I bring to it) So, Nexus 6P, One Plus 3, Moto X, & iPhone 7 seem to be my best options. Thanks to everyone for helping me pick out some devices.
