Unable to overclock?

Yes, I've saved and restarted my bios settings

Check cpu-z

Hi, I'm have a very frustrating issue with The Maximus VIII Hero, apparently designed for overclocking, simply will not overclock.

I'm using an i5 6600k. I've reset the bios and started from the top, set the CPU Ratio limit to 42, and Core Voltage to 1.35, but then I log back into windows, every program I've tried is saying that my CPU is not overclocked (running at stock speed). So, I've tried to see if there's anything wrong with the bios, but when I go back, everything seems to be the same (42 ratio limit etc.)

I've also followed ROG's own guide to overclocking, but still nothing works.

I also have an issue with the bios where I cannot set the boot drive as the windows boot loader despite setting it as the first one.

I'm a first time builder and I'm not familiar with these issues, so do you guys have any ideas on what should I do?

Is the board a code ID-10T?

Edit: Check the manufacturer's website for BIOS revisions and see if there's a mention about overclocking. And update your BIOS via USB while you're at it.

With ASUS Boards, it does not overclock inside of the BIOS, unless you change it off of a "turbo" overclock.

Check with a benchmark like cinebench.

Really? Haven't used many ASUS boards so I wouldn't know. So, he is getting the overclock?

Yes, if CPU-Z Says he is, he is.

Edit: I think I've read the cpu-z thing wrong, the specification says my CPU is a i5 6600k @ 3.5 ghz, but when I'm "stress testing" it, it says that my multiplieris 42 and my core speed is at about 4218 mhz

Run some potato peel on it. It cures everything.

Well.....most of the motherboards HAS a jumper to Enable/Disable OC.

Have you checked that? You can check it in MOBO manual.

I heard that coffee's good for my sex life.

It isn't.

It kept me awake through the whole damn thing!

I actually had to participate.

I've realised that I've overclocked correctly, but thanks for your help :)
