I guess you just can't slow a 5960x down.  Too damn good to be bothered with small shit.  :D

The other programs must be using some of the cpu.  When it's running realtime it must be not using 100% of the cpu,  or its bugged and it just says the same score every time regardless of how fast it does the benchmark. The other day I get a really stupid score in catzilla with a hd6950.

I wasn't really running that as a comparative score, but to show what it's scoring while running other processes to include capturing the video at the same time.  The results of which were very surprising.

I've got different copies of Windows instead on separate SSDs.  One is for benchmarks.  Another for games and so on.

Benchmarking/pushing overclocks to the edge tend to lead to corrupt Windows files, especially with CPU cache and memory overclocks.  Using separate Windows deives keeps all my important shit functioning as it should.

Just need to benchmark my Pentium 4 HT 3.2GHz, then post the results alongside those of my Pentium 4 540J and 65W Pentium 4 631 (the difference in power consumption between the 540J and 631 is very noticeable-the PSU runs a lot cooler with the 631). On a side note, the PSU that I used with them actually ran cooler with my i5 4440+GTX 970 under heavy load (this was before I got the VS650, then CX850M).

Nice voltage bud!

How much did you cool that chip down or was that completely on ambient temps?

Can you get cache any higher?  My best run (not the one in the video) was done at the exact same 4811 MHz, but with 4.7 GHz on the cache.  My memory was at 3346 MHz w/ 13-13-13-28-1T primaries.  x99 has a shitload of memory bandwidth when you push cache.

This was just ambient cooling was getting to about 72c even though the water was 24c.  I presume I'm limited by my water block.

I am running dual channel so the higher cache speed wasn't actually making a difference tbh. I could run the next multi up on the cache but I got a lower score.

My memory does not like to go below 16 to n the second and third timings.  It's a 3866mhz 2*4gb kit 18-20-20 on xmp but I does 13-16-16-36 1t at 3950mhz on skylake and tops out over 4400mhz :P

All of the water blocks are the limiting factor with these chips.  Regardless of water temp, you just can't get the heat off the IHS fast enough.

Yeah, right around 3333 MHz on the memory is just about all the IMC on HWE chips will allow.  BWE chips are getting 3400+, but their cache is much slower.  In the end, both put out about the same amount of work once overclocked, but I find that HWE can actually produce a tad more when pushed.

My water block is not as good as the ek evo.  I think the ek is 5c better on 2011-3.

I hope zen runs 4000mhz+ Imc like skylake.  I will probably go with an asrock ocf board for zen :)

I'd like to see Zen actually do something impressive, but I have high doubts.  If it does, I'm on board.  If not, I'm pretty excited about the upcoming Intel enthusiast platform.

The main thing is the price $350 for an 8 core will kill the value of the 5960x. But the outright performance will not be there cos they don't oc very well.  The 5960x will be faster when overclocked but its £950 atm here which is a joke. A zen 8 core at £350-500 would be much more like it. I think the £250 6 core will destroy the 7700k as well.

Pst, I have a P4 that has a 65W TDP+higher maximum t-case than all others. I could go to 5GHz on my AIO (once I have better fans+more thermal compound-preferably silver based). Resurrecting my P5 Deluxe helps too. Just adjusting that 1 almost destroyed pin with a small flathead jewelers screw driver....

Apart from the block, I probably have most of the parts already-though the only water pump I have is a 50+ year old 2 stroke engine that needs some work (its not seized luckily). That kind of thing will have to wait though-I was planning on making a vent in the wall to dump any heat from the rads directly outside-even at stock my Xeon X5450 is a space heater, let alone a P4 that can take 2V+ without dying (like my old Celeron).

this setup was £140 and the rads and fans were £100 of that, you could get a 360 or a couple of 240 rads for $50 ez and this would cost about the same as a 140mm aio.

Unfortunately, only my i5 4440 has ever held that personal record, and with shitty thermal compound as well (so much for pre-refresh Haswell all having shit TIM). And that's with my Siedon 120V.
