GTX 580 on 1080p

Guest

I have a 1360x768 Samsung HDTV as my monitor right now and my 580 runs GTA on high-ultra settings at 60-110 FPS depending on the area. I just ordered an ASUS 1080p IPS monitor, so I know my FPS will drop, but how much? I set my monitor to 1080p (looks bad and zoomed in) and then ran GTA in 1080p with the benchmark tool. I only dropped about 15 FPS which can be fixed with an overclock, but is this actually accurate? I'm not sure if it's giving me the same performance as I will see on the new monitor or if it isn't actually an accurate representation of 1080p performance. ;o

You should be able to have pretty much the same fps if you drop down to medium-high settings. So...not that much of a difference tbh.

Do you know if setting my display to 1080p is giving me accurate results though? If it is accurate then it's not bad at all. :D

I set my monitor to 1080p...

You used Downsampling/DSR ?

No I go into the display settings when you right click your desktop and set it on 1080p. Looks super weird hahah

Use DSR option from Nvidia Control Panel to enable non-standard resolutions (you don't need to enable all DSR options to do this).
Then set the resolution closest to 1080p in game.
Ater this, restart game if needed, and check performance number.

Whether using DSR or just a custom resolution it will act as if you are on a 1080p monitor thus the performance will be the same to a 1080p monitor.

I only drop about 3-5 fps when using 1080p DSR so I figured it wasn't accurate ;o

Maybe the 580 doesn't support DSR the same way as newer cards.

Yup, although it needs to be windowed 1080p because fullscreen bugs up and I get a black screen

Curious...
Did you used x1,5 factor ?

PS. I assume that GTA isn't GTA Vice City or something like that ?

I just selected them all and it let me pick just barely under 1080p (Probably because it was windowed)

GTA 5 btw

I'm trying it again with Borderless window and it hasn't changed FPS or the visuals at 1080p DSR

DSR Factor x Native resolution = New resolution
If you got native 1360x768 screen, choose 2,25x factor (or 2040x1152 of actual resolution) to be as close as possible to Full HD.
It's slightly above it, I know, but it shouldn't matter that much.
What are options available to you ?
1080p = 1920:1080 btw.

I just put it up to 4k and there's no change in anything xD

U can't do 4k.
Maximum DSR factor is 4x so in case of 1360x768, it's = 2720x1536.
4k = 3840x2160.

One thing I'm noticing is that at 4k the menu is slower. Maybe it's only increasing the resolution of the interface for some reason?

First one is 768p, the second is 1536p using DSR

Yup you need Fullscreen for DSR to work (not window/borderless mode).
I advise to lower everything to Medium and then going fullscreen.
Basicly your screenshots are done on standard resolution not DSR one.

This is how SS's should look like :

I didn't adjusted GUI for afterburner so it's easy to see something indeed changed :)

Well, I like having max FPS I can :)
I had it off because by default it limited my FPS to 30 (or half/refresh speed because GPU [GT 440 OEM - don't ask], can't handle 60 FPS at these settings).
My SS were done after switching Vsync off.

Are you using latest drivers ?
