I just sold my computer!

So the computer in my signature is going to be sold, EXCEPT for the SSD's and possibly the cooler (Just the tower components as well). So I will need a new tower. I don't even know what I have for a budget, probably around 1000 dollars? The cheaper the better. I also will purchase my GPU last so prices will stabilize. Everything will be purchased over the summer when something goes on sale.

 

Questions:

Should I get an LGA 1151 setup with DDR4 RAM, or use the extra money to get an i7 or something?

Is the 6 core i7 a reasonable purchase, or too over the top?

Is it worth getting an overclockable i5 (1151) for better performance?

 

So I have two 500 SSDs and case fans. Hit me with your best shot, fire away!

Depends what you plan on using the system for. If it's just gaming, I suggest you go with the i5 6600K so you can overclock. If your gaming and also creating content like graphic editing go with the 6700 or 6700K. 16GB of RAM should be enough and if you can afford it, get an overclockable board to pair with the above mentioned CPU's.

I do some gaming, just not a lot of it. I just want to at least match the performance of my i5-4670k @4.4GHz.

Are you primarily gaming? If so, get an i5 as hyperthreading isn't too big a factor in games. As for cores, I think 4 cores is best (LTT has a video on how many "Cores for Gaming") unless the 6-core is a few bucks more than the 4 core. As for as overclocking a CPU, no unless once again the price is fairly close as the K-series are "usually" better in power delivery and clock speed.

Looks good! I'm not in a rush to get video card so im going to wait for the 400 dollar price point for a 1070

A locked CPU could definitely do that.

You could have bought a key for 8.1 and used Microsoft's USB installer to save about 70 bucks.

Windows 8.1 and then an upgrade to 10. Where I live, it's cheaper to buy 8.1 than 10 by itself.

Every operating system comes with the option for 32 bit, but it's pointless. 8.1 is exactly the same as 10 and 10 is faster.

8.1 and 10 are not the same. 10 is similar to 8.1 but they are both different.

I was really considering something like that, but I don't know if I will even use that much power considering the price. I can get a 4 core 8 thread unlocked CPU for 100 dollars less and probably still not use that much performance. I will keep it in mind though, thanks!
