Hello, LinusTechTips

I am a long time fan of LinusTT, but just now registered to ask you guys this.

I am buying a new PC since my old one cant even handle CS:GO on ultra low and maintain above 70fps. (Its really fucking old)

As I was browsing my local tech shop, I found two CPUs - 8320E and i5 6500. Both are in my affordable range (considering I will need a better cooler for the AMD CPU.

I will also pair them with my card R7 260X, which is overclocked.

I want to ask yoy guys - which one is better? I can provide more details about the type of motherboard, cooler etc.

Thanks!

Easily the i5 6500. The IPC and single core performance is superior to that of the 8320E, which makes it a much better choice for gaming. Also has a better upgrade path (whereas AM3+ is a dead socket) + DDR4 RAM.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

For gaming it's i5 for multitasking it's FX.

Bare in mind FX is way too old chip (heat...) aimed at people who can't afford i5 but want similar performance.

@Prysin showed me the results a few days ago. Feel free to ask him.

I would wait for 2017 and grab a And Zen CPU, because with a IPC increase of what they are saying is achieved it will be about on par with haswell and it will be cheaper per core. (Think 5960x for ~500-700$). In the mean time you can grab a cheap desktop on eBay with the likes of an i5 2400 and use that for some time.

I would say go wit the i5. The 1151 socket will last you longer as the am3 socket is at the end of its life as far as getting a new cpu.

Don't spend that much money on CPU if u gonna use 260x with it, go with X4 880k top side or get X4 860k if you wanna buy better cooler for it, if couter strike is game you gonna play mostly don't spend that much money for a new i5 and save yourself a hustle fo getting an FX, FX aren't for everyone

Thanks a lot guys

and komi1997:

Yeah I know thats an old card, but I plan on upgrading it. I might even sell it for 90 euros and buy a case or RAM sticks for that. And I want a strong CPU since that PC will need to last long just because I simply cannot upgrade a CPU that easily.
