Make MX Blue/Red Sound like Brown

VictorianReaper

My Old Keyboard with an MX Blue switch is lying in a closet somewhere and I was looking for a silent keyboard but Blue is the opposite of silent I Might have a MX red keyboard which suffers from the same problem. how can I make it silent like a brown switch. is there a way? or do I just buy a new keyboard

Brown switches have a strong tactile feedback already, theyr not silent. And you cant make MX Blue/Red sound like Brown... you just cant, precision and pre-progamed machines can.

The MX Red switches should be quite silent.. they have are linear. you could get those rubber O-rings to make them abit quieter (by dampening the force from bottoming out)

But thats about it. you can't make one switch sound like another

Basically you'd have to glue the white part of the switch to the blue part, but I don't know how that would affect actuation or travel distance.

The problem is that you will have to glue every switch, which isn't only hard to do but the probabilty of you accidentally glue the whole switch close is quite high..

I dunno about the o-ring, because I have a G-710+ and it has o-rings, but with them out it doesn't really sound any quieter for some reason.

Do you bottom the thing out or are you more gentle with the strokes.. (sound really wierd I know)

The blue switch mod to make it brown is called Jailhouse blues or Ghetto browns depending on how you go about locking down the white piece.

https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=38091.0

If you had a swappable switch keyboard or the plate had cuttouts to remove the switch tops then this would be a rather trivial thing to try out.

I love O-rings on blue switches. There's 2 main parts to the sound a blue switch makes: Click(white part of the switch intended to make noise), Clack(bottoming out).

I don't quite like the bottom out since it varies depending upon the keyboard make. Sometimes it's more like a thock.

Find your red, add O-rings. Reds only make bottom out sound.

That is probably it yeah. but overall force to bottom it out is 45 grams maybe because of the bump you have to put some more force into it

The tactile bump actually has higher pressure, but the rest of the stroke is 45g.
