How much is my gpu worth?

So, I have an ASUS STRIX GTX 980 Ti that I've been using for nearly 9 months and I've been planing on selling it to buy an ASUS STRIX GTX 1080 or maybe MSI's X version of the 1080 (which one is better??). Any idea about the current price of my gpu?

I have a 980ti also, i know how tempting it is to think about dumping a card that's still doing a great job to buy the next best thing but maybe just take some time to think about how badly you really need a new graphics card :)

It will take some self restraint but i plan on holding onto mine until it no longer does the job i need it to do.

How long do you think the 980 Ti will last?

first off ^ he is right dont dump your card as it is still a perfectly good card, but your card is worth a solid $375 - $425

What resolution are you gaming at? What games/work are you doing? Most importantly is it still doing a perfectly good job?

the ones that sell for the price i told him are of a lesser value because of worse coolers, manufacturing or design

On tech talk yesterday, Jayz said he sold the 3 980 Ti of the owner of redmist for 300$ each, with waterblocks on them.

I think this is more of a barging right thing, but if I were you I would just keep your current GPU. there is no reason to get a 1080 if you're only on 1080p

I also have 980ti on 1080p. If you're like me, you can max every single game out and stick to 60 fps without breaking a sweat. I don't plan on getting a new GPU until at LEAST 1080ti or titan, but probably wont be until the next gen of card comes out (or unless I increase my resolution at some point). 980ti gonna kick some serious ass for a while yet. And the jump from 980ti to 1080 is only about 20%-ish better. Probably not worth dropping all that cash onto it for a marginal improvement.

I do agree the naming could have been better, but I think you have seen the benchmarks and those tell you that is way to overkill for 1080p :P

Then there is absolutely no reason for you to upgrade, unless you want the bragging rights.

I just sold my Gigabyte 980 Ti G1 Gaming for $450, but that was only days before the 980 Ti's went on sale.  I would target $350-$400 now.

I personally wouldnt pay more then 400 for it. As  I can get a brand new gpu the 1070 for 415-420 and the 1070 beats a 980ti.

Why do you need gtx 1080 if you game at 1080p?

Why do you even need 980Ti if you game at 1080p?

A single 970 can max out almost every game @ 60fps at 1080p

May I ask why you have a 980 Ti just for 1080p 60 fps?

My old €200 R9 280 can get 60 fps on every game I play maxed out in 1080p.

My old €200 R9 280 can get 60 fps on every game I play maxed out in 1080p.

Because in some games, some of the really graphically extreme games, its good to have that buffer. when I say "max" i mean max everything. not just high/ultra preset. even the things that don't make sense. max AA, max antisotropic, max shadows, blooms, whatever else the game has to offer. When I played tomb raider 2013, I only was getting around 70-80 fps with truly maxed settings.

Next is to guarantee I get 60 fps. I don't want 54, I don't want 48, I don't want any of that, not even for a moment. If i maintain 60 fps 100% of the time, then V-sync doesn't give me any stutters or glitches whatsoever. I also got it for the extra assurance that it would always do that, even in future games. And I plan to use the rig for a few years. I'm aware something like a 970 would have been totally fine for my needs in current games, but it doesn't account for future games.

Lastly? I had the money. I picked up an extra job during the winter in order to really put some cash away for this.I wanted a computer that I would never have to worry about. Been using budget machines and pre-built best-buy things for a long time... and I wanted to really see how good a computer could be. I'm aware its not the smartest or most economical choice, but it is 100% exactly what I wanted out of my computer, that's why I got it.
