ASUS STRIX GTX 1080: New I/O?

Schyken
Go to solution Solved by Mira Yurizaki,

What I don't get is why don't VR displays use DisplayPort with MST. I mean, sure, I get it, HDMI was more available during development, but DP to drive two panels with MST was how the first generation 4K monitors worked a few years ago.

The two USB ports I understand. But if only USB could multiplex on one port...

The new ASUS RoG STRIX GeForce GTX 1080 has two HDMI ports and two DisplayPorts rather than three DisplayPorts and one HDMI port. This is apparently for VR. So one output can be used for VR and the other for an HDMI compatible monitor. I find this very disappointing as I want a triple-monitor setup through DisplayPort. I do not want mixed results with a part HDMI part DisplayPort setup. Anyone else disappointed by ASUS' decisions here?vr-port.png

They could have done what Gigabyte did with their Xtreme cards. Normal IO on the back and two hdmi ports on the front of the card for VR.

I wish they'd ditch the DVI port.

If someone is using DVI, just throw in an HDMI -> DVI adapter. They used to hand out DVI -> VGA adapters with every card, shouldn't cost them too much.

I agree. I see no point in DVI anymore. Especially with a card this powerful.

That would have been great. I think ASUS is just being stupid at this point...

I'll be running 1440p, however, I'd rather just buy a different card than have to do that. I actually like the STRIX line of graphics cards, bit this is something that makes it difficult to adopt.
