RPI for Emulation, Movies and Standard OS

Hi All,

So I am wondering what base to use on my RPi2 so I can do almost everything I want to, this involves some bash scripting, kodi and some emulation when im bored.

I was going to use Recalbox but I am unsure if I can still access a propper desktop as this is designed for media stuff.

How could I go about building such a system?

Thanks

just use raspbian, install your emulators of choice, and install kodi for media stuff.

its honestly the easiest way.

raspbian, no reason to use anything else really

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

See I was thinking of using Arch Linux, I think I might just try strip down raspbian though

Arch is very good once you get past the first setup, though raspbian is the easiest way to start if you don't want to dive in. Would recommend arch though since you can strip it down to just the basics you want, unlike raspbian there is only so far you can strip it down.

Raspbian is what I use and for your uses the RPi2 should do what you want. I went through and tested all of my ARM devices (and some Atom ones) a while back and did a write-up on the RPi2 as a potential desktop replacement last year if you're interested I can post the links for those for you (I don't want to just link them unsolicited, I hate feeling spammy).

I managed to find what maybe a way around my question.

Using berryboot I should be able to load an image onto it and then run both Recalbox and Raspbian off USB.
Keeping them separate is not the best and most idea solution but I am doing this mostly to learn, although if it works out well enough I will keep it.
