AMD Computex Event-Polaris, Bristol Ridge, and ZEN!!!

Lol, it's interesting that this thread just turned into an argument on DX12 vs DX11.

I guess it kinda makes sense, since this thread has to do with Polaris, and Polaris is GCN, and GCN is good at async and DX12, which started a debate on whether or not Polaris might catch up to Pascal through DX12, which started a debate on if DX12 will actually be popular before Polaris is dead, which started a debate on when DX12 will replace DX11, and then....

OK I'll leave now :/

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

On the subject at hand (and not the piss fit of kids), I hope the performance on the 490x and other cards are a fairly linear increase in performance like the 380 to 480. I want to support Amd this generation, and if the cpu's are as nice as the apu's are looking to be then an complete Amd build would be awesome.

Oh, DirectX 12 will become popular.  It's just a matter of when.  DirectX 11 performs pretty well.  It's been around a long while.  DirectX 12 will undoubtedly perform better in the long run since developers will have more control over which functions get allocated to the CPU and/or GPU.

While AMD probably has some fantastic engineers, Nvidia's engineers are not oblivious either.  They have probably already thought several years ahead in terms of the direction that graphics are going.  They have an overwhelming amount of market share.  If the execs need to cut prices drastically in order to compete with this theoretically equal yet much cheaper card, they will.

My PC specifications are in my profile.

Four? Nvidia is also losing in aots,  hitman,  quantum break and total war: warhammer. That's 4 games already out and 6 announced including battlezone and star citizen. Obviously there are still unannounced games.  I'm confused as to how you came to the conclusion that dx 11 is still the focus when most of the big name titles coming are dx 12 or vulkan.

Battlefield 1 is also confirmed to support DX12 and async compute.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

according to the leaks upcoming Vega 10 has 4096 stream processors. The polaris rx 480 has only 2304 and gets 390x performance. So Vega will be beast, whether it beats the 1080ti etc of course remains to be seen.

also one source says there's an even bigger version with 6144 stream processors
