Apple prepping thinner MacBook Pros with OLED screen above keyboard, Touch ID for Q4

Quote

Kuo’s report explains that the MacBook Pro updates are the “brightest spot for Apple’s 2016 rollouts” and will come to both the 13-inch and 15-inch models sometime during the fourth quarter of this year.

The OLED display touch bar will replace the physical function keys along the top of the keyboard, while the design will adopt new metal injection molded hinges as reported earlier this year. Additionally, the refreshed MacBook Pros are said to feature USB-C support and Thunderbolt 3

In addition to upgrading the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pros, Apple will also introduce a new 13-inch MacBook similar to that of the 12-inch Retina model that was just upgraded with performance boosts with extra ports added. According to Kuo, Apple plans to make the MacBook Air the entry-level option, while the MacBook will become the mid-tier choice and the MacBook Pro will remain the high-end variant.

A report from earlier this month claimed that Apple was looking into providing a way to unlock Macs via Touch ID on an iPhone, but it now appears that the company is also looking into adding the physical hardware to MacBooks as well.

Personally I'm pretty excited but I wish the updated macs were being shown off thins WWDC as earlier reported. Apple always have trend to delay the exciting stuff first with iPhone 8 and now this. Anyways this is a pretty much confirmed rumour as Kuo had previously correctly predicted iPhone 6S, rose gold and the SE among many other things

Knowing Apple they'll end up throwing in 900 series cards or go with AMD again if they were going to upgrade the GPUs.

Also, their 13" models never had dedicated graphics cards so I don't seem them starting that now, sadly.

You and I know that won't happen. You'll be lucky if the 15" has 1060M.

By the way, a little bird told me that Apple will source their GPUs from AMD's new Polaris stuff.

Most likely will not.

They wouldn't put a 900 series card. They usually put in the latest stuff or don't update them at all or they don't update if they have production problems. I guess they may use AMD cards as they seem to have a contract with them

Yeah fingerprint sensors in a laptop were a thing but it faded out as it all pretty much sucked. I think we can all agree that fingerprint sensors actually gained some traction after Apple introduced with the iPhone 5S (which was objectively a miles better than swiping mechanism) and it's coming back to the market in full speed. Now if Apple manages to somehow integrate the fingerprint reader into the trackpad that'll be amazing

Amazing? No. The finger print sensors are still just as insecure and pointless as they always were. Its true that Apple managed to bring it back to the mainstream. But tbh I really hope it dies out and fast.

I am deliberately going for a phone that has one just for the speed of unlocking, It takes as long as the button to unlock if it's done well like my brother's 1+ 2

That depends on when they plan to release the refresh. Is there even an ETA for mobile 1000 series mobile GPUs?

But yeah, this refresh is most likely going to involve AMD cards because of the current contract.
