Overwatch = Esports?

moostrater

I think Overwatch has what it takes to be an Esport just like Starcraft II and i really hope it is an Esport because Overwatch is a great game and i feel like it would be better than cs:go and dota and league of legends.

Better than cs:go? You're having a laugh, mate. Don't get me wrong, I think it'll be a great spectator e-sport. Personally, I feel like the skill ceiling is set too low to lure many players away from other fps titles.

It will probably die out rreally quickly. Overwatch isn't exactly the most difficult game to play.

Eh. It has potential.

If TF2 comp hasn't died yet, then Overwatch has some potential. Sure, not as much as CSGO did and managed to hold by the balls with, but still.

Have to disagree, I admin and develop for a steamrep friend community server group and we only run rapidfire unlimited ammo servers and the gameplay is constantly new. I can't even play the vanilla game decently anymore :P

Total biscuit has spoken a huge amount about this topic. He thinks that it is extremely colourful and might be too confusing for viewers. He then mentions the same thing about League of Legends but there is a huge following for that game.

I think that there will certainly be an audience but I believe that it won't be as popular as CS:GO. I think that there is plenty of gameplay that won't run out. The meta will change (like every game) and from what I have seen you can play all classes very simply or very skillfully.

Whats rapid fire? Increase all weapons fire rate? I generally play only vanilla servers. But will occasionally go on like Saxton hale  and crit servers and randomizer. I recently discovered Freak Fortress Saxton hale and that got me playing a few days none stop. Id love to swing by your servers

I really haven't played much of any custom servers outside of Randomizer.

Randomizer is fun as hell.

I mostly roam the Virginia KOTH servers.

One thing I kinda dislike is the constant you need to counter this class and in my mind I think of just a constant two minute game play of a class then swapping cause your getting countered

They really need to work on those hitboxes if they want to do anything competitive though...

Agreed. I think it is too (not hating) casual. I mean don't get me wrong - I love it for what it is, being a game you can just load up after a day at work and have a fun time with your friends but as far as competitive play goes I think they have to tweak some things, like e.g the hitboxes

I've been watching the latest overwatch open matches lately (In particular the NRG matches and cloud9 ones), and can't wait for the exhibition world matches coming up. It's really exciting as a spectator, and it keeps getting better.
I hope it booms.

so is cod but where is cod now?

still damn high in the competitive scene

Lol? IMO COD died out with Blops 1 and MW1. The "pros" are just people who abuse aim assist for a living. The only people who take COD seriously competitively are kids who think quick scoping is hard

That's an F in the profile pic

I think we can argue the competitive scene, skill ceiling and spectator enjoyment value of either FPS title but to me comparing OW to CSGO is like comparing apples to a mug. Its simply not the same type of game despite being the same genre.

If I were to make a fair comparison I would say COD to CSGO would be slightly better, still COD has elements that are drastically different from CSGO, namely the respawn game modes and the core shooting mechanics. Still its similar in more regards than say OW.

OW is a great game, no doubt. The concept of multi ability and mechanics of the different heroes and the depth of how they all mesh together is very fun to watch. However I would say OW is def much harder to "watch" as its like MOBAs where there are multiple heroes and the depth is fantastic, but you need to be able to appreciate to a deeper level in order to truly enjoy the game.

In contrast CSGO, is much easier to watch. I will say it does get boring if you don't understand the teams, storyline and players in general. Some display of mechanics is sure to wow spectators, however true enjoyment for me comes from the depth of tactics and how the game flows overall.

So to sum it all up, OW is a great game in its own right, and CSGO is as well. I don't think either game should be butchered over any other and they are all great Esports titles. All thats left really is the developer support towards the competitive scene. In this regard, both Valve and Blizzard have had history where they lack commitment in some aspects.

What?

TF2 comp isn't the same as esports, Dan.

Ah yeah I might have misread a bit my bad XP

True that some people don't enjoy one game or the other despite being under the same "genre", it's like swimmers and runners, both are sports but a some people who swim simply don't like to run and vice versa, but they don't hate each other.

What?
