yorky321

Hey guys its upgrade time,

Was wondering if anyone knew the best 27/30" Monitor either 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 to get.

I was looking at this Monoprice one. What do you guys think ? Have you had any experience with these ?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers.

I got the Xstar 1440p monitor from dream-seller on ebay. Personally what I noticed first and foremost was COLOR. My now secondary 1080p monitor is a TN panel. Let's just say I didn't know too much about monitors at the time. The colors on the Samsung PLS panel are very juicy and it's a pleasure to look at. And as I later noticed medium/larger text is crisper. I didn't notice a difference with smaller text and that may be due to the coating on the monitor or maybe my eyes can't see a difference but someone else's will.

Point being. It's a great monitor and I would highly recommend the Xstar.

Wow thanks for the quick responses guys ! What do you think the main difference between the LG IPS panel and that Samsung PLS panel would be ?

PLS is faster, cheaper, and produces better color. The most important being faster for better response times.

Tek Syndicate doesn't know much about monitors. Just for you to know...

All the monitor that have been mentioned here are complete garbage, reject panels from Samsung or LG.

You'll get what you paid for.

If you want something decent to start with, with good gaming performance: Dell U2713HM or the ASUS PB278Q

Here are some in depth review of the monitor.

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/asus_pb278q.htm

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2713hm.htm

If you want an idea of what you are going to buy:

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/achieva_27_ips-zero-g.htm

Doesn't even have brightness control. And this is one of the better ones where you have an on screen menu. And you'll see, at least with this particular model, input lag is bad, and response time isn't as fast as the U2713HM.

Only get those, if you need 2560x1440 resolution, and you don't have the budget for a decent one, and you know and understand the risks.

Some people do, and got a fine products for their needs, knowing the downfalls, others wasted their money.

I'm upgrading from my Samsung S27A950D just FYI. Ive got someone who will take it for $350 so here in Australia ill probably spend $50 out of pocket to get the X-Star DP2710 27" 2560x1440.

And @GoodBytes I realize that there is a risk but I feel it is very slight and i will be opting for the "Pixel Perfect" version for the extra $20 I'd say its worth it. Also Id love to fork out $600+ on a monitor but having just bought a new car and starting Uni i dont think it'd be such a great idea haha. So yeah my current thoughts are the X-Star unless anyone has any better / other options ?

  • 2 weeks later...

After reading through this thread and looking online at reviews, like Tek Syndicate's it looks like I might be buying the DP2710. Looks nice.

CPU i5 4430 3Ghz | Ram: 16GB DDR3 1600 | GPU: GTX 650 Ti 1GB | Mobo: H87N-Wifi | Case: White Bitfenix Prodigy | Boot Drive: 120GB 840 Evo (Mac OS X) 120gb OCZ Vertex 3 (Windows) | Games Drive: 640GB WD Green | OS: Windows 8 & OS X 10.9.1

I love all technology. The perfection of macs for my designer side, and the hardware and fun of tinkering on the of the pc side. We can have it all, just not at the same time.
