I will be upgrading my pc build soon from a athlon x4 860k gtx 750ti. Is the i7 5820k worth the extra money along with a more expensive motherboard over the i7 6700k? I want this build to last me a long time (5-6 years) also im planning to pair this with a gtx 970 or gtx 1070 in the future. at the moment i will be pairing it with my old gtx 705ti (i know this is a major bottle neck. I will be gaming and doing alot of video editing/ photoshop on this pc.

cpuboss is terrible :/ don't ever use it :D

For the actual question, are you gaming or using it for video editing and what ever?

If it's only gaming then i7 6700k (or even a i5 6600k if it's only gaming)

A mix of gaming and CPU heavy tasks (such as video editing) then probably the i7 5820k due to it having more cores and if you really need the extra IPC from skylake then wait for Broadwell-e which should give the 'extreme processors' a nice boost in IPC :D

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

You could also wait for the 6800k. Broadwell E.

Pretty sure within the next 1-2 months :D (pretty sure it's meant to be released at Computex :D so chips will be out by June, July)

I would go for 6700k because has much faster clock speed and more cache.

Oh, lesson learnt I guess. It really depends on your choice. Do you want a better motherboard? Or do you just want to get a CPU. The price doesn't differ much without the motherboard (~40$), but I'd say the 6700k is much more worth it.

Clock speed doesn't matter that much anymore
