My X79 (3970X) "Midas" Build: In Progress

ericlee30

Looks good. I bet that gold was tough to get right.

Thank you. Yes, I had to find someone to make it. There are alot of sleeving you can get that looks like gold, such as desert sand, tan, Cyote brown and a little brown, but finding stright gold that looks exactly like gold, it was very tough.

I got the fans and LED strips today.

Next thing to do is, take the fans apart and paint the inside rim of the fans gold. The rest of the fan will stay black.

To my surprise I have not had any issues with the cards over heating or not getting enough air flow. I am doing water cooling with this build but because I am taking on a couple of other build projects on around the house, I have not been able to get this project done as fast as I would like :( The custom loop I am doing for this build is right around $3500, plus I'm getting the case airbrushed with Midas and a graphic seen around the entire case, which is another $1000. Im half way through buying the custom loop and shortly trying to find a really good airbrush artist here in Florida :)

I'm curious to how silent those Spectres are.

They are, the best way I can put it, pretty much whisper quit. I have over 40 of the spectres fans 20 blue LED ones and 20 of the all black versions, they are looks wise my favorite fans, Plus the inside ring of the fans is very simple to paint :)

LOL if I could find some I would differently get it , unfortunately that would probably cost more the $3500. I am trying to find everything gold plated though or at least find someone that can dip everything for me.

They are 3-pin. I love PWM fans but for these fans i purchased 2 bitfenix Recon controllers because they are only 3-pin fans. Love the Recon by the way, one of the best fan controllers I have ever messed with.

LOL I thought the desk was glass from what i remember but I guess I was wrong :( but here is the vid  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDT-c4LyBdU to the guy I thought you were. both of you have blue in your builds, but he is using blue tubing and from your pics it looks like you are using clear tubing with mayhem dye ;) which I love the color of by the way :)

You are correct with the tubing and the coloring, and yes I the color! I'm about to get a second gpu and water blocks for both of those and change my color to red to match the mobo!
