So currently I have an apu which is an a10 7800 at 3.5ghz with a vapor x r9 280x , in games like wow and Diablo which are the only two I play, I see like 30_70 in Diablo and 30_110 frames in wow, so I feel that it's dipping a lot and that there is a bottleneck or my CPU is weak so would upgrading to say an i5 4590 be a huge jump in frames also I might buy my friends i7 6700, will the frame jump be significant? Also if I have Windows and all my stuff on my hdd, if I change mobo but keep that hdd will I have to get a new copy of Windows? I hear rumors that a new mobo needs new windows but I already have it in my hdd? So I don't think I do...

As far as a new CPU i don't think i'm experienced enough to say for sure, but if you have a 280X already I think you would see a decent bump up in frames with a better CPU.  But as far as the HDD for a new motherboard and stuff goes, yes you do have to get a fresh windows installed on the boot drive.  There is a tool that supposedly does it but i have never tried it.  Old OS installs don't play nice with lots of new hardware all at once in my experience.

Yep, a 4590 would be a good improvement. A 6700 is just about the best you can get right now, depending on how much he's selling for.

I'd imagine your max FPS won't go up by much, but you won't dip below 50 or even 60 FPS as often, if at all.

Depends on the version of windows you have. If the computer came prebuilt, yes, you'll need a new windows key. If you bought the copy of windows yourself, it depends on which one you got. What Windows version do you have (7, 8, 10)?

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

It's a Windows 8.1 from a PC that I had bought pre built which is now massively upgraded but I kept the mobo and hardrive, if I'm upgrading to my friends i7 and I take his mobo but I keep my hardrive isn't windows still on my hard drive?

Windows is still on your HDD, yes. All your files stay right where they are.

But the KEY is tied to your motherboard. Why? I have no idea. That's how Microsoft does it.

So if my friends of has windows 10 and he sells me his mobo but before, I go on my original system and update to 10 so that the hdd and mobo both have 10 would that work?
