Hi ive had a I7 3770k oc to 4.2 for years now, and i am just now looking at some of the newer cpus, they seem to all be the same as 5 years ago, ie nothing going over 4.2

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-6700K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-3770K

even http://www.pcgamer.com/intel-kaby-lake-core-i7-7700k-cpu-specs-leaked/

so really whats the point of getting one of these? unless i could just slap on a 5-6 oc on it

I have a 4790K @ 4.6 stable @ 1.35v

I'm currently testing 4.6 @ 1.25v

EDIT:

If you went 6700K, you have the benifit of DDR4 ram. BUT, that means you'd need different ram, different mobo.

You don't get new cpus for higher clocks, you the them for higher ipc the, average max over clock has actually gone down since the 3770K, newer CPU's also have support for extra features such as ddr4 and M.2.

My current build - Ever Changing.

Number 1 On LTT LGA 1150 CPU Cinebench R15

Not really off topic... You asked the point of it. The point is, DDR4 & higher IPC. You can also get a much better OC from the 6700K.

and no. I would not use DDR3 with the 6000's. That's one of the main reasons you use 6000 for DDR4.
