Hi there

Ive had an issue arise from installing windows 10 across both a laptop and a desktop that resolves around file explorer.

File explorer runs perfectly fine however if I go into the quick access bar and right click on, say "documents"or "C: drive" the program will temporarily freeze, File Explorer will shut down completely and the desktop will also appear to "crash" and go completely black (including the task bar) with nothing visible. No Icons or or anything.

However any other programs such as Firefox or word will stay running and visible and I can continue using them as this happens with no apparent adverse effects of any kind.

After about 5 or so seconds the desktop will reappear along with all icons and task bar with no loss of functionality whatsoever, File explorer on the other hand will not restart and all instances of it (being 1-10 different windows depending on current tasks) will be closed open the re-appearing of the desktop.

This fault does not occur if I right click on "This PC" "Network" "HomeGroup" or "QuickAccess"

Event Viewer comes up with these logs:

I have contacted Microsoft tech support three times in regards to this issue, The OS has been reinstalled twice on the desktop. All Drivers are up to date

The desktop originally did not have this issue, it was only the laptop. However after a C: drive failure the OS had to be reinstalled and arose with the identical problem

Diagnosis is also proving difficult as the issue occurs intermittently, with no apparent differentiation between the incidences

If there is any further information needed to diagnose this issue please let me know, I have been trying to fix this issue for the best part of a month and am out of ideas so any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

Welcome to the forums!

First of all, I'd advise you to reinstall windows but you've already done that... how did you reinstall it? (Built-in function, disk, usb?)

Perhaps try the System file checker ( Guide )
