What would do better in a duel gpu setup, 390X v 980 V 970

390X - the 3.5GB of VRAM on the 970 is crap for SLI and the 980 would cost 200$ more for an SLI rig and have the same performance as 390X CF

If youre doing 4k the 8gb of a 390x would come in handy.

 

Btw the frame pacing/micro stutter issues with amd crossfire that was an issue before is gone since  the hawaii cards (XDMA implementation)

no sli just buy a better card sli is horrible from personal use and some games dont even utilize the second card

Just wait for the flagship Pascal and Polaris GPUs to hit shelves and get one of those instead.

In my opinion, the Pro Duo still counts as a dual-GPU solution, and at $1500, it really is more of a developer-oriented product anyway.

 

The R9 Fury is $500, and is a much better option. The Pro Duo is basically R9 Nanos in crossfire with a lot more VRAM.

Erm - devs don't answer for CF/SLI - that's the GPU OEM's thing.

Crossfire is back to having a bundle of microstutter issues, check out the recent pcper.com article on the Pro duo card. Its a real shame that AMD continues to fail to invest in its crossfire support but its been a consistent problem and they only keep it working when the press is watching. Pcper adds games they didn't previous test and we see lots of microstutter.

 

If I hadn't seen that review today and heard pcper.com say crossfire is worse I would have recommended AMD but for 2 cards Nvidia does a better more consistent job and has done for years and years. I can't recommend two cards anymore but given the option go 2x Nvidia.

Erm, Nvidia are gradually phasing out SLI driver support so that's actually a worse idea

The fact that most SLI profiles aren't available day 1 anymore and some are still not working - like Fallout 4

Well - logic. In 2014 the Game Ready drivers brought flawless SLI profiles before the game launched.
In 2016, the SLI profile takes 3-5 days and doesn't work as intended half the time

Dual GPU and 2x Single GPU+ the same for SLI, I make no assumptions without proof on this...

Maybe, but for me there's little difference in terms of two cards in CFX/SLI and a single dual GPU cards with onboard CFX/SLI... Just price, and space...

 

If one doesn't perform in the expected price/performance bracket, then I don't care for it.

 

Generally, I hate any SLI/CFX implementation due to constant issues.

I never said there was a difference between the two. And I´m aware of the issues SLI and Xfire can have. I always personally recommend to go with one stronger card.
