So I built my computer back in October 2015. Just a few days ago I was playing World of Tanks. I opened Chrome for a bit, went back to the game quickly, and I got the worst lag I have ever gotten on the thing.(1-10  fps)

So here are the specs and tell me how much I screwed up and what should be a priority upgrade...

APU: A4-7300 (Stock heat sink)

Motherboard: MSI Grenade a68h chipset FM2/FM2+ socket

RAM: 4gb Patriot Signature memory (PSD34G1600KH) (Really 2gb because of "hardware reserved memory"

GPU: ASUS GTX 950 STRIX OC edition

HDD: WD Blue 1TB

PSU; Antec 550w

Some Lite-On dvd writer

raidmax card reader

Restart the system? if it happend out of no where with out any game updates then its odd.

Other then that your CPU is quite bad and you should be running at least 8 GB of RAM as it is becoming the minimum spec for games these days

first upgrade should be either ram or cpu. thats a dual core amd cpu, so its gonna bottleneck quite a bit, though what you mentioned sounds like not enough ram. all browsers are memory hogs, so it sounds like you were forced to use the pagefile as extra ram, causing lag

this is probably whats causing the lag lol, chrome eats up ram so you might wanna get 8gb

not sure how this would pair with a gtx 950, but i would say not very well

it could also be your hard disk lagging your system

try defragmenting it

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Problem 1 is RAM. You should have 8GBs minimum for gaming in today's society. Also a dual core APU really isn't the best...

In my eyes, if you are VERY limited on budget buy a Athlon 880k and 4 more GBs of RAM and you should be fine.

Ahh i see definitely upgrade the RAM ASAP and save up for a CPU , a cheap Haswell or up i5 will suffice for about any game

I have an AMD board it will be hard to put in an Intel CPU.

Or he can get an Athlon 880k which will hold him off for the time being. My friend has the 860k and a 270x, GTA V runs just fine.

Heck my APU runs GTA V half way decent.

If he can afford an i5 right no i would suggest he go with it, an 880k wont be of much use in the coming years but if he is under a tight budge then it would be fine

Yeah I am, I know they are two different companies with very different sockets.

Ahh okay you seemed very serious xD

He's not, but I am. It's easy to install an Intel CPU in an AMD Socket. Here's what you need:

  1. Intel CPU
  2. Tin/Aluminium Foil
  3. Scissors
  4. Hammer
  5. Glue or Duct Tape
  6. One (1) Sandwich

First, remove your AMD CPU. Next, you'll want to carefully cut the exact shape of the CPU socket out of the Foil. This is to ensure proper contact between the Intel CPU and the CPU Socket. Once that's done, position the Intel CPU over the Foil and Socket, and hammer away - gently but firmly. Now have a sandwich break, because modifying things you're not supposed to modify is hard work. Use Duct Tape or Glue to hold the Intel CPU in place if it won't stay seated. Power it up, and grab a bag of marshmallows! You're s'more furnace is ready.
