Set only one drive to ahci mode

I have 2 drives in my system. a SSD and a HDD, I want to set the HDD to AHCI but if i do it coverts the SSD. Should I just unplug the SSD and replug it? please help i'm new here so sorry if this is in the wrong fourm

What have you got/want to have the SSD set to? AFAIK, you can only have one mode enabled at a time, rather than managing drives separately. AHCI is generally the advised mode to use.

i have windows installed on the ssd so how would i migrate the drive to ahci without boot fails

SSD should be AHCI.

You may have no option other than to reinstall. I would advise doing a clean install, but make sure to backup anything you want to keep from the current drive. 

Try changing the SATA mode to AHCI first, though (after backing up), sometimes it can work fine after a SATA mode change.

i want to change both to ahci

Change the SATA mode in the BIOS, that will change it for both of them.

thats what im looking for new to this mobo its a h170 pro gaming

i have a feeling its ahci by default
