Hello there. I'm a bit confused about getting a fresh install I saw earlier in another topic.

If I want to upgrade my mobo, cpu (skylake) and ram, I will need to make a fresh w10 install. I saw that if you get a skylake cpu you'll get another year (currently up to jully) to upgrade from w7 to 10.

First of all: Is this true?
Secondly: If I don't have the key from w7, can't I just use my product ID I currently have in w10? Or it will be marked as used?

Thanx a lot.

I don't, I just saw someone post that on another thread. All I found was that you have until 17 July 2017 to update to w10 so critical security updates won't put at risk your system. The usual stuff. But can't say if that's free or not.

Facts. You can upgrade for free when you have windows 7, board doesn't matter. Not that I ever heard before O.o

And afaic licenses are bound to motherboard. If you have used that license on a diffrent board you have to revolke it on the old board before it can be used on diffrent hardware. This does not apply to oem, only to retail license.

Oem are one time and bound to hardware forever.

So, once I have the new components, I revoke the license, install new hardware and reuse the license I currently have for w10? Don't need to upgrade from w7 all over again?

Right. Build 1511 can be activated with win 7 keys, but you have to revolke the license.

But I can confirm this work. Even when that board was never installed before.
