Game Of Thrones Season Premier Massively Pirated Shortly After Release

ravneillal

Its not surprising at all that GoT was pirated massively after season 6 was broadcasted. I was one of those people as i dint have access to it in a legal manner. If there was a way for me to pay for it and get access i would gladly pay but since region blocking/restrictions prevents me and other people from getting content which i love i do not see a future where i will stop getting digital media through torrents. Its actually a huge shame to so such a popular series or any other content not being available globally in this digital age and loosing out on potential revenue.

According to data from TorrentFreak, in half a day more than one million people downloaded the season six premiere of Game of Thrones through torrents. There are currently more than 200,000 people sharing copies of the episode through torrents around the web, making it extraordinarily easy to pirate the show.

Australia is once again the biggest culprit in Game of Thrones piracy, accounting for roughly 13% of all downloads despite having a relatively small population. India, the United States, and the United Kingdom also downloaded the episode in significant numbers.

TorrentFreak notes that while Game of Thrones is the leading contender for most pirated show of the year, the first episode of season six hasn't broken the record for most people simultaneously sharing a copy of a TV episode. However if past seasons are anything to go by, the season finale in a few months' time could end up breaking it

For several years in a row Game of Thrones has been the most pirated TV-show, and this year the interest is once again overwhelming.

An interesting trend among pirates is a move from standard definition (480p) to high-definition (720p and 1080p) video. A few years ago roughly 10% downloaded HD copies, which are larger in size, but today this is getting close to 50%.

The top 10 is completed by the Philippines, Canada, the Netherlands, Greece, South Africa and Saudi Arabia. It has to be noted, however, that this data is skewed due to time differences, as our sample of 10,000 downloaders was taken throughout a 12 hour period.

The statistics reported above only account for BitTorrent downloads, so it’s possible that other pirate sources such as streaming and direct download sites did see an increase. Also, in the U.S. HBO was available for free over the past weekend, which may have had an effect too.

Well, us here in Australioa never get those types of shows on time so in order to not have the plot spoiled we have to stream it

A brief inspection of the download locations of the most popular torrent shows that Game of Thrones pirates come from all over the world, as we’ve seen previously. The show is particularly popular in Australia (12.5%), India (9.7%), United States (8.5%) and the United Kingdom (6.9%).

They're still charging too much for it. It's unaffordable for a lot of people, even in the US HBO Now, the cheapest way to get it is $15 a month. I use a VPN to get it on HBO Now but others in Australia have to pay a minimum of $45 AUD a month for it. Especially expensive when a lot of people ONLY want to watch game of thrones and not all the other rubbish on pay TV.

I love how these articles never mention that the people who torrent GoT are the people who buy the most merchandise and the most blueray seasons.

"Back in the day" pay for cable, no ads, years later has ads, pay for premium channels like HBO for no ads, now they have ads. Now when a show comes out pirate it and watch with no ads, if you like it buy some merch and/or the episode set when it comes out, and/or the seasons collection when it comes out.

And here I sit with Season 1 and 2 on disc, and only half of the first episode watched (and I've still had all unwatched episodes go unspoiled-if you don't count reading the books :P), and I'm in Australia.

This is just further evidence of the issue with availability and distribution. Case and point is the notable decrease in music piracy with the growth of streaming services like Spotify, Google Music and Apple Music. If More streaming websites had more content available, there would be less piracy. Netflix & Hulu outside of the US is quite often a joke as it has a more limited amount of content.

Unfortunately, the studios in charge of distribution licenses (mainly in Hollywood) have quite a few-to be blunt-retards in charge that think that by limiting the size of the market needlessly, they see higher profits. which as a lot of people know, just isn't the case.

Oh I totally get that. I personally watch it as it goes on tv via stream or my friends place but I personally prefer physical copies over digital ones, pirated or not.

The number of DMCA takedown requests I get every Monday morning because of this show is insane. People who think they aren't being tracked over BitTorrent are greatly mistaken unless they use a VPN (and even then, choose wisely). These automated takedown requests include the time stamps and everything so they're logging is pretty intense.

Netflix recently released in Romania and as if the content selection wasn't a joke, people expected it to be at least very easy to use. Romania is filled with pirates, and most of them probably wouldn't care about Netflix coming here. "Oh, but if I won't use it, maybe I can make a gift for my mother or father". Well, good luck with that. It's probably easier to teach your parent to use HD pirated movies websites because, guess what? There are no Romanian subtitles for anything! Actually, the only thing in Romanian is the welcome page! Nice joke Netflix. Now back to the content itself, what the hell. I could form a larger library of movies and series just with my external hard drive. "But maybe I could watch Game of Thrones legit, right?". Take a slap in the face consumer, because you won't be able to watch GoT, nor Vikings, Fargo, True Detective,Doctor Who, Sherlock, Supergir, Gotham, name-any-other-popular-tv-series-here, or even House of Cards! Seriously, you can't watch House of Cards on Netflix here, even though they produced it. Want to know why? Because there are other streaming services here which have exclusive deals and more content than Netflix, at a cheaper price!

Netflix is a joke outside of the US.

What do you expect me to do? HBO is not available here in italy and Sky broadcasts it at the shittiest time possible imo. Plus GoT is one of those that i simply prefer binge watch it in an single day cause constant cliff hangers are a pain in the ass and waiting a full week makes it that much more painful

One day I will be able to play Monster Hunter Frontier in French/Italian/English on my PC, it's just a matter of time... 4 5 6 7 8 9 years later: It's finally coming!!!

heavily pirated really ? lol

let me see why...hmmm...no global release, localisation crap, no one wants to wait another year to see the new season, i am pretty sure everyone in this forum following the series and not located in the US, will see the pirated version...100%

most cases piracy isn't because of ppl pirating it's because of idiotic startegies from the firms complaining about piracy, netflix is right, get ride of localisation in the entertainement business, you get ride of piracy, full stop.

even the gaming industry, they need to shirten the period between discounts, instead of cuting price by 10-20% in 6 months, 30% in a year, the game released for 2 years the best you can get is 40% off making a 60€ game  at 40€, that is still not low enough to reach ppl who cannot spend 100 buck a month on games, ppl who pirate games are ppl who most likely wont be buying the game anyway not because they dont want it but because they cant afford it, so shorten the the discount periode, a game should lose 30% off in the first 3 months, 50% in 6 months, within a year the game should get a lower treshhold like under 20€ or under 10€ depanding on the game, they would end up with a 10b$ industry instead of 3b$

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but the HBO GO website / player performs like absolute crap on my computer. Granted, it's an older laptop, but still...   my housemates have an HBO account so I'm able to watch legally, but it's just an unpleasant experience.

There's no way to choose your resolution on the player, so it always tries to force max HD and turns every video into a stuttery mess.
