Okay, so I wanted to achieve 5.0Ghz for a while now, since temperatures are well within reason I decided to try 5.0Ghz.

4.6Ghz works fine on 1.2V.

On AfterBurner it usually shows 45-50 temps (but when I look into other software it says that 59 was maximum temp).

I'm using H115i. With an extra fan on top.

Never tried to go past 4.7Ghz.

What voltage should I do next for 4.8Ghz?

Thanks in advance.

Trial and error

Push the frequency until it crashes, then add voltage.

not the other way around

Is there a free software I can download to test the overclock? Aida64 is obvs. not free.

Prime 95 is a great CPU benchmarker used it to test my G3258 overclock.

Though once you find a stable clock after about 10mins (people say like 10hours and stuff)

you should play games for a couple hours cause benchmarks don't tell everything.

Then the next one I use is Intel Extreme Tuning Utility is what I use to test my CPU, GPU, and monitor everything. Its nice and can you can overclock in the software instead of BIOS (I wouldnt do it personally though, BIOS is more reliable).

Most likely due to unnecessary instructions being performed on the CPU which leads to absurd temperatures. I actually consider Prime95 and FurMark just to test worst case scenario on temperatures not actual stability of a CPU/GPU due to the unrealistic world scenario instructions those programs put on the processors.

But to OP best way to test your OC'ing on either CPU/GPU are games that are demanding in both such as GTA V, Witcher 3, The Division and Fallout 4. If you want a quick/free way to do it then Intel XTU as others mentioned is great.

I know how P95 works. And while I agree with Furmark only being useful for temperature testing, P95 can also be used for stability testing, provided the correct settings are used.

But that's not the point. I actually want to know what OP did to "almost have the CPU die", as the setup he has shouldn't be anywhere near that. Even for P95 standards.

I did read in a lot of forums how Haswell/Haswell Refresh was being "damaged" by P95 due to incorrect instructions or something along those lines. I'm not sure if that has been updated or not, but it most likely has been.

Geez, how did you get to 110C with 1.2v and an H115? Is your cooler seated properly?

Sir, I know how prime95 works. In fact, better than most people around here.

And that is precisely the reason for my question: it shouldn't get THAT hot. Even for P95 standards, it's over what I'd expect.

I'm not saying you are. I'm saying that there's something wrong there, and I want to know what it is. Afterall, I use P95 24/7 on my OCed PCs, and they do just fine.

I don't know what is wrong too, but from my experience Prime95 is a bad software therefore I'd rather use anything else like e.g. the Intel Extreme Utility or Aida64 trial or something.
