Upgrade over an AMD FX-6300?

Hi,

 

After finding out that my CPU and R9 290 was only doing 30-55 FPS on Dark Souls 3 I now need to upgrade my CPU as it clearly was the issue. 

I'm looking for a CPU that will make DS3 perform on a stable 60FPS in 1080p.

My budget isn't really big on this one, around £120?

a FX-6300 costs £120 were i live lol not sure what you can get with that

I'd recommend an i5 (or better), but you'll need a new MOBO too, so it'll be ~£200-300

Better CPU cooler and OC the **** out of the 6300...you ain't getting any better CPU for 120 quid...you would need to switch over to intel (I know ) to get better single core (still important for gaming) performance...

An FX-6300 only costs around £80 on Amazon UK. 

I've taken an interest on an AMD 10 7870k which is around £110

That would require a different motherboard and be worse then a FX-6300.

 

If you want to have something that keeps up with a 290 it will need to be Intel.

Hmm I will try to OC my 6300 and see if I get any good results from it. Thanks for the comments

I had previously put my 6300 on 4.1ghz and putting it up even to 4.2ghz causes crashes. And so it means I will  need to upgrade... New board too..

Either wait for Zen/Kaby Lake, get a Haswell processor, or OC'd your 6300.

Difference with the 6300 may be eligible but it's still a option.
