What RAM to buy?

Go to solution Solved by Aytex,

Any ddr4 ram that is around 2400 mhz or higher is good

Hi, I'm new to the forums so please excuse my formatting if it's incorrect.

I'm currently looking to buy a i7 6700k and a Asus Maximus VIII Hero board.
I'm not sure what RAM would go best with that combination. I will be looking to OC the CPU and the rig will be used mainly for gaming if that's of any help.

Awesome thanks for the quick response!

So higher is better? Would 3000 mhz be overkill?

LTT did an experiment. after 2400 you see a decrease in speed due to higher latency. im running 1833 and see a noticeable difference in games, and my friend has the same computer roughly and with 2400 but we see maybe 3 frames difference in the same games

I have a couple suggestions for ram and a question for you.

Suggestions on is to go with a good speed, and for ddr4 ram 2400 mhz is good, better then most ddr3, and go with a cheaper price that also looks good in your PC. Id also suggest going with 16gb. 8gb is good enough, 16 is just better and you know you wont ever run out.

My question is what are you using this PC for? I am asking because you are buying 2 parts that are very expensive. I am just wondering if you are spending to much on your mother board and your processor and not enough in other places.

Mainly gaming, but I also like to tinker so it's for fun as well. Price isn't too big of an issue.

An i7 is way more then enough for gaming. It's why people suggest an i5. 200 dollars for a motherboard is a lot. You can cut 50 bucks off that price by going with a different board.

You can then take the money you save and spend more on a graphics card.

Wow, $72 for a 16GB DDR4-3000 kit with a lifetime warranty. RAM has gotten so cheap. I figured it had bottomed out a few months ago but it keeps going down in price.

yea it's a good deal, yet for some reason everybody insists on saying you need to get 2133 or some random low speed kit.  There's plenty of extremely good kits for only a few extra dollars.
