So I finally got my hands on an asus z170m plus motherboard, and I'm finally buying the rest of my system today.  So I'd figure I'd come to LTT one more time for RAM advice, even though I can already anticipate what the consensus is going to be.

So I had my eyes set on 8gb of Ripjaws V 3200mhz for a while for my i3 6100 build, but came across 16gb of Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM, only 200mhz slower, for $20 more.  It seems totally worth it to take the slight hit on speed for another 8gb of RAM.  I'm also thinking latency/timing wise, both types of RAM should be about the same.

My intention was originally to just get some really fast RAM, not necessarily a whole lot of it, but the 16gb just seems too tempting to pass up.  Anything else I should consider when buying this RAM, or could come up with a valid reason I should take Ripjaws V over Corsair?

for now, capacity > ram speed

unless you're doing cpu intensive tasks

but i guess you could get 8gb if you think its enough

Right now I think 8gb would be enough, especially since I'm going with the i3.

Eventually the plan was to upgrade to an i7 and 16gb, possibly for VM stuff.

well then if 8gb is enough then you just answered your own question lol

tho tbh i prefer 2x8gb dimms, i can see 4 gb dimms being useless soon :P

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Eh if you're a tab pirate in Chrome and want to have a few other things open in the background. 16GB is totally worth it.

Though if you don't really need the extra ram then I guess 8GB is plenty.

3000MHz and 3200MHz is quite fast there. I mean I know that faster ram can increase game performance by 7% but I think right around 3000MHz it starts becoming negligible.

Just a quick update, I 180'd and think I'm getting the GeiL Super Luce instead.  Does anyone have experience with them? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144950&ignorebbr=1
