These temps ok if I use this laptop as a desktop replacement/media centre?

I'm toying with using this laptop as a desktop replacement (in the loosest sense) and a media centre (it has its own TV tuner, needs Windows Media Centre though), and so after running Unigine Valley and Prime 95 simultaneously (and having the palm rest getting waaaay too hot as usual) and getting the worst case scenario, would these maximum temps be OK? I've got the secondary dGPU overclocked by 120MHz core/20MHz vRAM ( 1GB DDR3 1640MHz).

If it's just a media center PC, it shouldn't get anywhere near those temps during use, so it'll be fine.

Ehhhh 83 is a lil' bit high, somewhat sort of into the worry zone for me

I would maybe use some sort of cooling method like this?

and maybe increase fan speed?

I would try to get to 75 degrees at least

It is the worst case scenario with a CPU bound scenario (GPU usage wasn't at 100% with loads of stuttering in Valley) and the dGPU with a 120MHz overclock, and it will also double as a desktop replacement.

I can't control the fan speed (tried, and its got a high fan curve anyway) and it is a HP pavilion DV6 3010AX, which are known for their high temps. Also, I really don't want to have moisture near a computer, I've already got 1 older laptop with corrosion.

it is in a different tub than the ice tub so idk what you're talking about   unless it can somehow form on the other side?

In games, you might get close to that temp, but you will usually be far from it, especially watching videos or browsing the internet.

Which is why I went with the worst case, at the moment with chrome open the CPU is at 55^oc and the dGPU at 57^oC.

Remember seeing condensation on the outside of a glass? Well that will happen on the inner surface of the tub that the laptop is in.

You aren't using PLASTIC tubs are you? Plastic is an insulator.

 

Even with metal though, you'd be wasting a ton of ice for not very much cooling.

I'd definitely do that with my desktop, but I really don't want to do any mods to this laptop (I could mod a small block to fit....and since it'd be attaching to the naked die....)

To be clear, I don't think you NEED any mods for your laptop. It's fine as is.

 

Don't do that with your desktop either, it would be a lot of work and ice

Ah, for 5 GHz+, you'd need a substation cooling solution.

You're referring to your AMD Phenom II? You might even need phase change cooling for that.

Its a mobile chip unfortunately. so unless I can get a mobile-to-desktop socket adapter (like I could for my Pentium M770 and Celeron M380, those'd really be fun to OC since they have naked die as well+run at a far lower voltage than the desktop socket 478 chips, so I wouldn't need any mobo cooling), I won't be overclocking the CPU. And I was referring to my 4790K, though if I could I'd also like to get my Xeon X5450 that high-at 4.4-4.5GHz it matches my i5 4440.
