Intel just dropped a 22-core CPU on us.

Intel is turning loose a 22-core monster of a CPU, dubbed the Xeon E5-2600 V4.

The CPU’s 22 count is made up of Broadwell cores, which when combined with Hyper-Threading, amounts to no fewer than 44 threads in a single-socket computer. On a dual-socket machine, you’re looking at 88 threads in a workstation.

One of those weird coprocessor things though.

Still pretty cool.

Our Grace. The Feathered One. He shows us the way. His bob is majestic and shows us the path. Follow unto his guidance and His example. He knows the one true path. Our Saviour. Our Grace. Our Father Birb has taught us with His humble heart and gentle wing the way of the bob. Let us show Him our reverence and follow in His example. The article date is literally March 31st. I don't know if this will get taken down but tbh you shouldn't post something as news when there's been like 10 posts about this and it happened 2 weeks ago, hence the "new" in news.

I wonder though why would anyone on the mainstream platform need anymore than 8 cores ever. Especially if you can hyperthread them.

True . I just don't want to pay the "intel enthusiast time" that comes with x99 . To hell with regular consumers ! They can just get the soldered chips !

1) no one on the "mainstream" platform have more then 4 cores and 8 threads right now `-`

2) remember how 4gb ram was all you need?

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

I'm actually afraid that they are really going to do this. Soldered chips for anything lower than i7 Extreme Editions.
