Hi guys, I'm looking at building my new PC, I'm looking for around 1 500$CAD.

Here's the build i'm planning to do for now: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/KFFNJx

I don't plan on running anything in 4k and I will have 2 to 3 1080p monitor. I plan on waiting for some price drop before buying.

Should I go with a 970 or a 390? As they are both the same, I was looking at benchmarks and the 970 was doing better.

I already have :

Keyboard - Razer Black Widow Ultimate

Mouse - Logitech G500s

Headset - Siberia V3

Windows 10 key

Do you have any suggestion? The case and the PSU are only there for the price as I am looking at in this price range but I didn't find the right one yet.

i would recommend a non k cpu (waste of money in my opinion), obviously you dont need z170 then, also a fractal design core 2500 because its very easy to build in, cheaper and more quiet.

for the gpu i would wait for next gen. but if you dont want to the 390 is faster and you can get a freesync monitor which is actually effortable. the 970 is just faster when you overclock really hard or do some weird aa and tesselation settings which nobody uses in the real world.

thinkpad l450, i5-5200u, 8gb ram, 1080p ips, 250gb samsung ssd, fingerprint reader, 72wh battery <3, mx master, motorola lapdock as secound screen

Please quote if you want me to respond and marking as solved is always appreciated.

These are my suggestions:

CPU: Drop down to an i5-6500. It's pointless for a gaming build.

Memory: Do you need 16 Gigabytes of memory?

GPU: R9 390 is my vote. Slightly better DX11 performance, significantly better DX12 performance, and no segmented memory nonsense.

PSU: Get something of better quality, not higher wattage. Speaking of wattage, its pure overkill. Get a Corsair RM series, or Seasonic or Antec High Current Gamer PSUs. 500W is all you need.

The problem is that this is an nVidia product and scoring any nVidia product a "zero" is also highly predictive of the number of nVidia products the reviewer will receive for review in the future.

His endless dick jokes and toilet humor are annoying as well.

Spoiler

I was thinking about the UltraWide, but I prefer the old 2 screen.Or I would go with a 34 inch.

I won't only use it for gaming purpose, I use a lot of VM, as I love to play with code and test new things. I don't plan on upgrading the computer, so I want something that should allow me to run in the future. As after this gaming build this would become a Home Server/Gaming thing in the living room. I don't save enough by going the i5 way compared to the power I lost.

As for the 16Go I like to allow a lot of RAM to my VM that sometimes run while i'm gaming.

For the 390 they are the same price as the 970, I was looking at benchmark and the 970 was getting better score.

For the PSU, I know that Wattage is pure Overkill, but I wont sacrifice 200 watts for 15$. I want only know brand for the psu, like Antec, Corsair, Cooler Master, Thermaltake  and that is 80+ certified and if possible, modular.

Actually, no.

The only thing you lose is a 200MHz clock speed, some boost clock and iGPU clock, and HyperThreading.

But since you say you run VMs while gaming, then I'd say get an i7-6700. The more threads will help.

I looked at the recent DigitalFoundry benchmarks, and they show the opposite.

What are you going to do with the extra 200 watts? And for brands, brands are irrelevant, as long as you can match the PSU you chose with the PSU tier list: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

For the i5 and i7, just for the Hyperthreading, I think its worth it to spend the extra 100$, if i was able to save 500$ i would do it but for the price I think the i7 is a better option.

For the 390, I'll look at it.

I'll into tier one and tier 2 for the PSU, into a 500 to 600 watts

For the graphic card, I'm gonna check, the first one to drop might win :P

I don't plan on spending this much on a case unless I can find a good deal on an H440 or a 400C

For the hard drive, i'm looking at a bundle from Newegg that got a 2TB in it. I put that one because its 10$ more than a 2TB and I was thinking about formatting it in ext4 not NTFS as I will have a Ubuntu or a Arch Linux third hard drive.

I finnaly made my choice and bought everything

I went with:

i7 6700 (I didn't really need the overclock power, making me save 50$ and saving on the cooler, but I plan on changing it for an aftermarket during the black friday)

16 Go of DDR4 2400 from G Skill

Asus Z170-A motherboard

3Tb of Seagate 7,200 RPM

480Gb of Patriot SSD

GeForce 970 WindForce (I wanted more The Division than Hitman and got it cheaper than a 390)

Zalman Z9 neo Black

Thermaltake TR2 600W

Came down to 1600$ minus the Mail in rebate (About 50$)
