OMG, I cannot get my laptop to stop freezing when trying to transfer files between external drives

Does anyone know what could be causing this?  I have a new external hard drive and I'm trying to backup data from one external drive to another external drive and every time I try on my laptop I get the BSOD.  Even when running BVCKUP I get the BSOD and it's driving me mad.  Could it be the drive?  Or is there a setting I'm missing?

Have you tried moving a smaller file to the drive, and does that freeze the computer? If not, you might be trying to move more than the computer's processing power can handle at one time.

Hmm, I wonder if that's it.  I'm doing it on my PC right now and there is no problem.  PC has a 4790k and the laptop has a  i5-6300HQ

I would probably move the files in sections then. What error did you receive in the BSOD?

Don't remember.  When I go to backup my hard drive again I'll see because I'm sure it will crash.  Right now I'm simply backing up one external hd onto another external hd.

You can always download and run Whocrashed and it will show you past BSODs and what is the reported cause. If you're curious about the health of the drives you can run Seagate Seatools or WD Data Lifeguard (both free) and see what they report.

All 4 crashes point to this This was probably caused by the following module: bcmpciedhd63.sys (bcmpciedhd63+0x222B2)

So I searched the sys file and found this link on the Dell Community forum: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19661516

I'm guessing your laptop is a Dell. If so, it's apparently a driver issue. A few users on the above link updated their BIOS and that fixed it for them. I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the WiFi driver first.

Im downloading and installing a whole bunch of drivers.  I never installed any of the dell update bullshit so I need to do it manually and never checked up on it.  Hopefully that will fix everything.

Good luck. Check back in if there's anything else you need help with. Hopefully the updates will fix it.
