Heya all,

A few days ago while i was playing a game my pc froze and when it responded it gave some error messages.

I already tried reaseating gpu, ram, all peripherals and clearing cmos but it still doesnt give video output. One time i only had the ram, cpu, mobo and psu in and it still didnt show anything

First it was stuck in a boot loop but that doesnt seem to be happening anymore. Every once in a while my mouse and keyboard lights turn off for a few seconds though.

Also I know that the screen still works.

when I was playing I had windows 10 installed but in the meanwhile i took out my ssd, put it in another (older) pc and reinstalled windows 8.1.

I cant use the older pc for any testing because it is fairly old and probably wont be able to handle anything i put in it.

I'm beginning to think that the prolem is with the bios. So my biggest question is if i can download a bios on something lika an usb and use a front header on my pc to load the bios from there.

My mobo is- MSI z97 gaming 3.

The mobo should have 2 bios' but I have no idea how to activate the second one

If you have any other questions feel free to ask and I hope I can awnser them

Allow it to boot loop for up to an hour. It eventually will decide that the first UEFI is corrupt and will switch to the second one to overwrite the first one. Don't bother it if it starts to do this.

If it doesn't restore from the secondary UEFI, then you may have to contact the motherboard manufacturer (MSI) to see if you can obtain a replacement.

Last I checked, MSI boards typically (if any) did not have any UEFI/BIOS flashback, but even if they did (like on certain Asus boards), it would be through a specialized USB port on the back, never through a front panel.

Before trying anything crazy with the bios, maybe assure yourself that is the problem? Try your CPU on another motherboard...

And even if you are sure its the motherboard, take it to MSI if its still under warranty

When lyfe gives you HDDs, make SSDs

Lol.... or just hit alt+F12 and boot into the backup....

alt+f12 doesnt do anything. atleast i still dont see anything

You have MSI so it's probably a dip switch on the motherboard or you don't have dual BIOS, one of the two(or three). Alt+F12 is default for Gigabyte.

Make sure you reset CMOS right... (you probably know but some don't know how and try to do it with the system on and stuff), and since the boot loop isn't happening anymore if it doesn't POST then try reseating the GPU again, or try the VGA output of the motherboard if it has one with the GPU removed. Also, if you get nothing after all that, try with backup BIOS if you actually found a dip switch on the MB to swap BIOS (once again switch it with the system completely powered down and PSU switched off just like resetting CMOS). The whole time doing this I would only have 1 stick of ram in the system as well, and possibly trying with the one stick of ram in a couple different ram channels.

Goodluck.

i cant find anything about which dimm slot i should use for one stick of ram...

i dont know if it even matters with just one but is there a standard or something?

also the dual channel sticks need to be in slots 2 and 4.

Just put it in any of them. It really doesn't matter. When you get your problem figured out though you should put them in the correct slots.

I can't say with 100% certainty because I don't have your boards owner's manual in front of me, but if your first set is supposed to go in 2 and 4, a single stick is likely supposed to go into slot 2.
