8500gt dual monitor not outputting.

I have an old 8500gt for a freinds computer i fixed up as he uses it for general computing and he has an e machines 17 inch 720p display along with an HP lv 1911 but when the hp is plugged in, the system wont output to the displays. nor if i plug the hp in standalone it wont output. is it the monitor or the card?
