Software You Hate But Have To Use

List software you HATE but HAVE to use.

For me that would be the biggest piles of sh*t the universe has ever seen: ORIGIN/UPLAY

Can't they just use Steam?

Agreed on Origin/Uplay. I hate them. Also GFWL. Up until I repurchased Dirt 3 through Steam I still had use that old, outdated GFWL crap.

Origin, UPlay, Skype.

I guess photoshop too, but i don't hate the program, I just hate paying out my ass for it every month.

Opera too, chrome uses too many resources so i refuse to use it nowadays, firefox crashes too much, it's basically the only option left. Its not... awful though, just unsavory.

Anti virus/malware. You download like a dozen different types, they're time consuming take up a lot of space and can really slow things down. All because people are cancerous peices of (insert profanity here) and will do anything just (insert profanity here) up your computer

I could pick faults with most software...

Every version of Windows since 2000 has been a kick in the lower regions of power users. You need the newer support, but also get with it a ton of rubbish to get in the way. Random things done through the UI are slow for no good reason, but are instantaneous if you use command line.

Photoshop Elements. Not full blown PS as I'm too tight to pay the current monthly ask for the rest of my life. If you buy newer versions of  PSE, it will nag you to buy other Adobe products. I bought software to use it, not an advert serving platform. Also whatever version I'm on now has a worse interface than the older one I misplaced the DVD to. They're going the MS route of making it look slightly less scary to the clueless users, at the cost of crippling it for anyone who knows what they're doing. What I could access all the time, now I have to use something almost ribbon like that you can't move or customise. It has to eat valuable vertical screen space when I have tons of it spare to the sides.

I suppose in both the above cases, and also in general, it is not that the software is incapable of doing things you want. It just doesn't offer the freedom to do it they way I would want as a power user. Along with that, to put aside the bits I don't want.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

Everyone hates origin and uplay because they're buggier, less effective versions of steam, and we'd all just prefer to only use steam.

Personally if I could never use iTunes again I wouldn't, nor would I ever use windows if the support for Linux was there, but as it is, the support for games, specialist software and hardware just isn't there.

That microsoft piece of shit? Rofl, it has 0 support from third parties. Sure its fast, but lacks any sort of plugin or extension support from a wide group of developers.

We all hate uplay because...

  • Game invite are only sent 1/3rd of the time
  • the launcher itself uses resources like a fat fuck
  • launcher servers are down 1/5th of the time
  • game servers are some of the worst out there
  • even games bought and launched via steam will launch the app and force you to create an account (Just another step)
  • Is just another way for ubisoft to try and squeeze more money from users.
  • 1/2 of the content requires starting a browser (Not even supported via the launcher)

We all hate origin because...

  • Lacks proper friend system
  • lacks proper customization features
  • servers are spotty as FUCK
  • download speeds are about as fast as an obese man up stairs
  • constant crashes and launcher problems
  • 1/2 of the content requires starting a browser (Not even supported via the launcher)
  • Again, just a way for them to save a buck and use their own shitty launcher, instead of steam.

Autodesk Inventor

I admit is decent, and has some advantages in mechanical analysis but for modeling it has nothing on solidworks and other programs pass it by easily. But, my schools computers are too weak to run decent analysis so its void yet for 4 years I've used it for drafting and engineering classes.

If you want to adjust certain aspects of it, sure. But I own a Kraken x60 and never use any of NZXT's software.

Oh, and I'll jump on the bandwagon,

WINDOWS

I've had so many issues with this damn OS, i can't even begin to describe the pain. I literally, just last night finished reinstalling my fucking windows 7 because I managed to get a root kit, and removing it destroyed my os and my restore points. Then while reinstalling the os the fucking thing never created an mbr, meaning i had to get back out the freaking usb and boot into repair to rebuild the bcd and mbr. Fuck windows.

I do graphical work, and know photoshop and adobe creative suite programs. I'm not willing to learn anything else for graphical work because im lazy and have years of experience with it, so linux is off the table.

I'm gonna be completely honest here, I was REALLY really surprised to see that people hate Windows so much...

Anywho, I would say NetBeans is pretty damn annoying, especially since Visual Studio is better in every single way for programming... from installing to building and compiling. But of course, my professor says we have to use it.

Windows - because not a single Linux distro has DirectX support

and Viasoft's Agro 3C.

Man, Agro 3C is EVERYTHING is software shouldn't be, it's complicated, the learning curve is awfull and takes about 6 months to get used to the entire interface and options, which go from selling farm equipment to animal food to measuring trucks, really.

The company has changed it doe, it's the "Agro Titan", much simpler...

You should ask yourself, “Why would Microsoft support Linux to begin with?” It’s a direct competitor to Windows and MS’s whole proprietary ecosystem, and is one of the company’s tools to keep gamers like the folks ITT tied to their lackluster OS. DirectX support (and by extension, game support) is one of a couple key reasons why most folks don’t move to Linux and Microsoft knows that.

Besides, it’s not like one distribution would support DirectX and another wouldn’t – most all the time GPU drivers are kernel modules independent of any package manager or other higher level OS system.

Of course, they would never support Linux, but i trully prefer using Windows a second term system, my everyday ridealong is Debian with Gnome ambientation, i feel confortable with it...
