Razer has confirmed the price of the "Core" at $499.99 USD http://www.razerzone.com/store/razer-core   This is WAY overpriced IMO, should be $199.99 or less.

True, almost better off getting a 980m Notebook around thy same price as the Blade stealth with 256gb and the Core with a GTX 970

Here I was thinking razer brought the price down for once with the stealth, but I guess they are making it up by charging an arm and a limb for the docking station that actually completes the ecosystem. Think how much someone would pay in total if they got this with the 2016 blade instead of the blade stealth...

I just watched a video of the new Blade and this external GPU docking station. I must admit I like the idea. I do travel a lot and usually I carry (as long as I stay within the country) my HTPC with me, because Laptops just don´t cut it for me in terms of GPU power, or they´re outdated too fast and lack of upgradability. Now that being said my HTPC features an i7 6700K with GTX980, so my claim is quite high.

 

The USB 3.1C via TB could become a game changer over the next time. I´ll keep an eye on this whole development.

doesnt even need a "decent" power rating... it can only power 1 card.  So what a crap 300w powersupply, some sort of pci to USB3.1 controller and some software??  Looks like cost to be <$50

Well, considering the dock it self costs as much as a high end GPU and you'd have to get a GPU to put in it and have a Razer blade it just sounds to me that you should just have a desktop instead of an external dock and get a cheaper laptop to do things on the go. And even then it would still probably be cheaper.

Half the reason this is such a good idea is because of the price to perf of desktop gpus, but that goes out the window if you are pretty much paying the price of the laptop for the dock and a decent gpu.

It is fast enough over TB because it refers to PCIe 3.0 4x and that is not an issue for cards like a GTX 970 or R9 390x in most cases.

Thunderbolt 3 is twice as fast as usb 3.1, and thats what enables the link speed required to run a gpu (pci-e 16 4x)

pci-e 16 8x should be enough for pretty much any card. thats what most motherboards run when you have more than 1 card (unless its lga 2011)

there are diy solutions out there, but they work off a cable connected to the pci-e slot thats normally dedicated to the wifi card (which is usually also pci-e 16 x4), and not thunderbolt, so it is not very hot swapable. All the r&d around these docks is to make them more seamless than what was done before, but that still does not justify it being $500

Either way I still feel that there will be, without a shred of a doubt a significant problem with the dock. Not sure why it just seems like there will be.
