What are other phones like?

Okjoek

I'm 21 and I got my first Iphone about 2-3 years ago , although before that I only used really cheap Trac phones, this phone has been far more useful to me, but I'm wondering what the next phone I should get will be. My Brother says that Android phones are better for gaming. What opinions does anybody have on that? I personally don't like Apple as a company. I've always considered their computers garbage and it was mentioned on the WAN show before about how Apple is obstructing the government's attempts to investigate the San Bernardino terrorists. This only strengthen's my moral dislike for Apple since I don't believe they should be allowed to be above the law and refuse to cooperate with an investigation as ordered by a Federal court.

So I guess in general from someone who hasn't used a wide variety of phones, what do you think is a good path to take once it comes time to get a new phone?

OnePlus One:

-Great battery life.

-Very cheap

-Big storage (64GB max)

-1080p IPS screen

-NFC

No other fancy stuff. I only wish it was waterproof and had a fingerprint scanner. If you don't want NFC look into buying the OnePlus Two.

The other phones are pretty well the same as iPhones.

Unless you get one that's waterproof or something they're all more or less the same.

You mean how Apple is standing up for the security and privacy of regular citizens, and not letting the government control everything creating a backdoor into your device and making your life even more big brother

Actually gaming on iOS is better than android in my opinion, with really good mobile ports of games, and a really really strong gaming scene

Android gaming is good, its main strength are all the emulators of old games

That's kind of what I was going for. I'd love to play some of my GBA games and stuff on my phone. I just don't like any games with lots of micro transactions like I see on the App Store which gives me nostalgia for stuff like my GBA where it was just the game, no corporation trying to milk me like a parasite beyond the initial purchase.

I guess it's more of an ideological preference then. I don't encourage paranoia towards the state and to put it simply I support more socialist policies and collective society for the security and equality of mankind. History shows us that some have gone too far attempting to implement this, but history also shows us that too much privacy and freedom can be just as harmful. I have to believe that there is balance somewhere yet to be found. Oh dear though, this is getting a bit off topic of the technology. Either way I respect your views even though I don't share them.

Then yes android is king for this kind of tihng

but there are LOADS of amazing games on iOS that do not have any micro transactions or any bullshit

quick list off my phone:

Bastion, Transistor, Deus Ex, Max Payne, Nova 3, Mass effect infiltrator, dead trigger 1+2, dead effect 1+2 , KOTOR, Assasins creed pirates, assasins creed identity, Terraria, Bards Tale, Minecraft, Goat simulator, the wolf amongst us, san andreas (and other GTA) shadowgun, dead space, Oddworld strangers wrath, banner saga, need for speed most wanted, the dark knight rises, hearthstone, hitman go, tomb raider go, modern combat 5, legend of grimrock

That is just a couple of folders worth, and there are tons more

Android - my nvida shield is great for N64, PSP, PS1, SNES, GBA, etc - I LOVE playing emulated games on my shield, its really really great - HOWEVER - they suck with touch controls, the GBA is ok, but a PS1 game on touch screen is just the worst experience

With regards to "liberty" vs "privacy" I agree, the govt need certain pieces of information to help look after its citizens, they dont need access to my private conversations, or nudes/selfies,

Nowadays, its hard to get any privacy, so I am happy Apple are bringing this discussion to the forefront, and are are not just giving the FBI access to any phone they want,

I am not paranoid of the govt nor a tin foil hat, but I have a line as well, and giving the government and unlimited access back door into my device is a step too far (as well as the government trying to ban encryption)

Desktop - Corsair 300r i7 4770k H100i MSI 780ti 16GB Vengeance Pro 2400mhz Crucial MX100 512gb Samsung Evo 250gb 2 TB WD Green, AOC Q2770PQU 1440p 27" monitor Laptop Clevo W110er - 11.6" 768p, i5 3230m, 650m GT 2gb, OCZ vertex 4 256gb,  4gb ram, Server: Fractal Define Mini, MSI Z78-G43, Intel G3220, 8GB Corsair Vengeance, 4x 3tb WD Reds in Raid 10, Phone Oppo Reno 10x 256gb , Camera Sony A7iii

I have a 10 dollar itunes gift card from probably 2 years ago. It claims to not have an expiration date. Can I use that on the app store to buy a game or two? Maybe something familiar like Minecraft? Or I've been considering Terraria on Steam for a while now, It looks a bit like Minecraft, but 2D.

Nexus 6p

+ Smexy resolution (1440)

+ Nice metal build

+ Fingerprint scanner

+ 4k camera

+ Amazing batter life (+48 hrs a charge)

+ Gets Android updates first

-----

Gaming wise, I actually think iOS is better. Android has a bigger library but it's A LOT of garbage. Apple also does better housekeeping so a lot of the crap games get removed. Plus, since there's only a handful of iOS devices, developers can better optimize games vs the 1x10^350 devices running Android.

"Solus" (2015) - CPU: i7-4790k | GPU: MSI GTX 970 | Mobo: Asus Z97-A | Ram: 16GB (2x8) G.Skill Ripjaws X Series | PSU: EVGA G2 750W 80+ Gold | CaseFractal Design Define R4

Next Build: "Tyrion" (TBA)

That is a good point. Apple is certainly easier to pick because they're more uniform. Maybe they do shine in this phone field more. I just wasn't sure because as I said I havn't had actual experience with many different phones. I tend to use it for calls, text messages, flashlight, music and a few casual games time to time.

Actually, that kind of makes me want to buy an iPhone.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

Just close this thread and go buy a Nexus 6P.

If you do not have the funds for the 6p then the 5x is still a good choice

It really depends what you want to do with your phone.

Everyone goes on about how android phones are better as the software is more versatile etc, but this often also means more bugs and slower software. However, I do agree that getting an android phone gives you a much wider choice of hardware.

But yeah I do agree with those who are saying you should just go buy the Nexus 6P as they are really nice phones
