New build, won't connect to internet and can't update any drivers

buttmademewiser

So title speaks for itself. Now that I've dealt with display problem, the next one in line is that I can't get an internet connection to update my drivers. It's complaining about my network adapter drivers but how the hell can I update them if I can't get a connection?

i7 6700k 4.5GHz, ASUS Z170-PRO, Corsair Dominator Platinum 16Gb (2x8Gb) 3000Mhz, Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti G1 Gaming, Samsung 850 EVO 500GB, WD Red 3TB + WD Green 2TB, Corsair Ax860i, Corsair H100i GTX, NZXT H440 Black w/tinted window, Asus ROG swift PG258Q 240Hz + Asus ROG swift PG279Q 165Hz

Maybe connect the computer to a router or modem with a cable and download the drivers?

I'm connected through cable and have no idea why it doesn't recognize the connection

Had the same problem when i was done with my first build. I didn't have any internet connection and had no idea why.

Didn't know i had to download the motherboard drivers that came on a disk. *facepalm*

Same thing happened to me, but that's because I'm a retard. Don't be like me and give up on ever having a working build for 48 hours. Just don't

Download the drivers from a laptop, copy the files onto a USB and then install drivers from the USB.

That's if you don't have a CDROM/DVD reader, much easier with that.

No one uses CD/DVDs anyways. Most of the drivers will be out of date. Linus and any other Tech person will say ditch the CD and download the latest drivers.

Ok so I downloaded chipset and LAN drivers but no major changes so far? Have I missed something?

Ya at first I didn't plan for a CD/DVD burner#reader but then realized I had an old one lying around so, ya know, why not? The drives can't be that outdated since skylake came out like mid 2015.

If you go to Device Manager --> Network Adapters do you see any symbol in the bottom left for your Ethernet adapter (down arrow or question mark)? Also Does it give the name of the device or just show up as Ethernet Controller? If you don't see it your ethernet adapter there do you have an "other devices" and do you see it listed there.

If you do not see any funny icons for your ethernet device you may want to try to set a static IP. And finally, make sure your computer clock is right. I have seen this cause some weird issues in the past.
