Zotac GTX 980 Ti - Best high-end bang for your buck?

Koshigaya

I'm trying to squeeze every dollar worth and from what I can find Zotac's 980 Ti looks to be the best out there. 1253 MHz base, 1355 MHz boost and 7210 MHz memory clock with superior cooling for only $664.95 ($706.51 after tax)? Is there a catch here? I mean, look at the KINGPIN 980 Ti, it's slower and it costs $800.

This is Currently the cheapest high end 980ti: Gigabyte Xtreme 980ti ($629.99 after rebate)

It will give clocks higher than the Zotac with many saying it boosts over 1400 MHz without any adjustment. I own the Gigabyte G1 Gaming and its a beast it can be very quite and still cool well, but is capable of so much overclocking (my max is 1505 MHz and I use 1480 for everyday stuff). the Xtreme came out recently and is an upgraded G1. The catch with the clock speeds is that because of GPU boost 2.0 all cards with decent coolers automatically get in the 1300 - 1400 range and can be overclocked 1450+ (and memory overclocking is negligent with Maxwell). The KingPin is outrageously priced because its supposedly better with / designed for liquid nitrogen cooling and people with fat wallets don't really care what the price is if they can say they have the best (really just the most expensive) 980ti.

Gigabyte's customer service has been questionable lately. So, for the sake of a safe option, go with the AMP Extreme Edition like the one you linked. Thats actually one of the most powerful 980 Ti's around. Its not a Kingpin, a Lightning, or a Hall of Fame card, but goddamnit its fucking Extreme.

And if you're an overclocker you might want to look at this card...this is gigabyte highest performance line of cards right now, at this price it's a steal...this is a very high grade card:

the card is a beauty it's a 12 phase board with a bios switch and RGB led fans and so much good stuff...i wish i could get my hands on such a card for 650$

Sorry to disappoint there is little to no bang for buck where the 980 ti is concerned, there never is at top end, you always pay 30% more for 15%ish more performance over the lower tier...

If you have that kind of money to spend, i would consider 2 x390's.....when crossfire works well, (which is most of the time) you will get significantly better performance than a single 980 ti even with a big overclock........I would recommend 2 x970 normally too over 980 ti, but the lack of VRAM will prove a problem in the future i feel.

Single card value for money is a cheap 980 (under £380 in the uk right now) or a fury (if you can find one cheap) none X.....

Sorry but there is fuck all value for money in a 980ti or Fury X

But if you want 980 ti look and see what price you can pick up a zotac amp omega for, its a 3 slot card but has a beefy overclock and heatsink, or a Palit Jetstream.

Sorry to snip that shit!

wow...that's a terrible post...EVERYTHING is wrong about it...recommending dual R9 390 or R9 390X ....wow :o

the 980ti is so powerful that the actual value performance per dollar is higher than many other lower tier cards such as the GTX 980 (30% slower, 20% less expensive) or even in AMD's line up the R9 390X is actually 40% slower than a GTX 980ti but cost only around 30 to 35% less on average...making the 980ti better value for your money.

The FuryX though i have to give you that makes no sense what so ever...noticeably slower than a GTX 980ti across the board by around 15% and barely any faster than an R9 390X yet it cost the same as a 980ti...this is a rape.

er no...........

A good 980ti is more than double the price of a 390  Not 390X ( i didn't mention 390X)...................actually more than double over here in the UK....you are talking bollocks about the 980ti being good value for money because it just isn't

980ti average price £560

980 average price £400

Performance difference between the two cards 15-20%

390 average price £260.........hmmm less than half the price of a 980Ti

Performance difference 25-30%.....

2x 390 average price £520......

Average performance  between the 980Ti and 2 x390 is 25-30% in the 390 favour....and the 390s will last longer due to them being AMD card with 8gb on them.

and for the record the more you pay the value for money goes down....

Get an education before you call my posts bad in future.

On the topic of bang for the buck, so here's a thing I found

My MSI 970's price was 51% of my Gigabyte 980 Ti G1's and the performance was 59%.

Very cool

The Zotac GTX 980 Ti AMP is pretty much a great deal. I ordered after reading some 980Ti reviews. You can still overclock it further to match other high end versions of the GTX 980 Ti. Currently the AMP is also the cheapest. Not sure if prices have already changed. But at the time I ordered one it was the cheapest.

I like PC, but I like Music as well.

I've had my AMP! Extreme for almost a month now. Its a Monster make sure it will fit in your case and once your sure it will fit, order it you wont be sorry. Mine runs almost 1400 straight outta the box. Memory is higher than the posted specs as well .

From all the cards you guys recommended here, i don't see their edition available in my region. For example, as for the Zotac i can only find the normal AMP Edition and not the Extreme. Same goes for the Gigabyte XTREME Gaming OC Edition, can only find the non OC Edition.

Would the "normal" versions be okay as well? I've also found the Hall of Fame, not really sure which one to pick.

Good catch, I didn't read the review. However, I still stand by Gigabyte as they make some of the best performing computer parts while undercutting competitor's prices.
