LTT Classic video on what not to do and how to give all your fans shit information, I wonder why most people delidding are seeing up to a 20c drop in temps in extreme cases...

Linus does a piss poor job then goes on to say that's why he doesn't do it... If I built my own shed and didn't follow the millions of pages of advice or instructions and made a piss poor job of it, I wouldn't recommend doing it either...

I wouldn't even be mad about the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 comments. I would've been stoked. But that was the autogen thumbnail from YT, I didn't even pick it :P haha.

Don't some people skip the step of replacing the cover and just mount the cooler to the die? How much of a difference does that make?

Yes, we also use Liquid metal TIM too because replacing the stock intel TIM with a lesser performing TIM is pretty counter productive...

Not sure why a cpu with poor overclocking temps wasn't used as a better example. My 4790k went from thermal throttling at 4.7ghz to 85 degs in stress tests from delidding. If linus's goal was to tell his audience not to risk destroying your cpu by delidding then fair enough.. but then again he's got a video on spray painting a motherboard..so me is confused

3 degrees is probably the worst result I've seen for a 6700k delid, I can only imagine it's because IC Diamond was used. For delids Thermal Grizzly Kyranut is decent, it's close to liquid metal without being conductive or hard to clean up.

And just an FYI, TG Kyronaut and liquid metal have a pretty big lead over other compounds for delids, it's not just an extra few degrees.

Thermal Grizzly does a liquid metal TIM that is harder to use than Coollabs Pro/Ultra. If you're delidding then not using a LM TIM then there is no point. You're just wasting your time.

Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut is surprisingly close to LM if you look at the numbers, I can't talk for their LM, since I haven't looked at it much.

Any other TIM that isn't LM and I'd agree with you, it isn't worth it, but Kyronaut is really good.

Yet to see someone in the delid club recommend Kyronaut over a LM, but I won't hold my breath.

I'm not saying it's better, I'm just saying it's a lot better than other normal TIMs.

Oh, I just noticed in my original post, I implied Kyronaut was as good as LM, that was a mistake, I meant it somewhat close, while not being conductive at all.

While I agree with Linus here,  that risk/gain ratio in delidding isn't quite worth it,  I understand why some people still do it.

It isn't about a performance boost you can utilize in practice.  It's about getting the highest benchmark scores.

Do not feed.

I agree with Linus that the risk of delidding is not worth it for the general user or/and if your cpu is a newer one like that one he tested. For people who want to get every bit of performance out of their cpu it's worth it. It is also worth it if you're using an older cpu like 3770/4770 because the thermal paste is is gone completely bad after that many years. A lot of people on forums are reporting 20C temperature drops after delidding a 3770 so definitely worth it. I hoped Linus would do a test without the IHS(idk if the socket and cooler would have allowed it), it would been really interesting to see the results.

Now regarding the cpu he used. Man, I can't believe that Intel would pull a shit like this. How can Intel put thermal paste on a high end processor, one in fact that is supposed to be overclocked by people who want to get the best out of their cpu.. not only did they put thermal paste but they put a shitty one. What were they thinking!? It's fine to do this on a i3 or lower bracket i5 but on a i7? Seriously? $400 for a cpu and you couldn't bothered to solder the ihs or at least spend a few more cents and put a high end thermal paste? This is bullshit, fuck Intel for doing this. This is what happens when there is no competition from AMD.

NO! It's art, it's colonialism and you'll never get it!

Linus, what if you removed the IHS all together and mounted liquid cooling directly onto the CPU. Wouldn't that provide less resistance even more.

This is worst delidding i ever saw.

This is best ^ and you cant cut to PCB with this

And i guess linus doesn't saw that results from luke's thermal compound application that it doesn't matter unless you put small amount of TIM

People who go through the trouble of dellidding will use CLU or other specific compound, this video is pointless.

I shaved off 10+ degrees on my 4770k @4.4Ghz moving to liquid metal. And that does matter as it allows the cooler to perform quieter (besides overclock potential).

I'm so disappointed that I actually posted here lol
