Can't decide on which headphones

JabroniBaloney

For a bit, I've been considering the closed back DT770's but they're a bit on the pricier side for my budget and I've opened myself up to an open back headphone. So I did some research and I'm completely torn between the HD558, DT990 pro and the SHP9500. For price and detachable cable, the HD558 is the winner, but DT990s look damn awesome. I want an upgrade from my inexpensive HD202s and want something I'm going to be content with for a long damn time. These will be used for gaming and music(mostly metal and some indie type stuff) primarily.

Well you should take the one that sounds the best to you. I would say that the DT990 are the best for metal music.

Ive modded my HD 558, removed foam and detached the silly Sennheiser cable lock mechanism to use a V-Moda BoomPRO. This Headset makes fun ^.^

But ive bought it to mod it. Its very comfortable because its a lightweight. I dont know if the other options sound better or not, im happy with it. And its superior to the Game One Gaming Headset for a cheaper price.

I ended up pulling the trigger on the 558s. $63 because the package was ripped is too good to pass up and if they sound eh, I'll send em back for the 990s.

I have give that lil mod a try if I'm not into them. I've read mixed reviews from doing the mod, but audio is all pretty subjective.

Why would you mod them you will lose the warranty on them

you can undo the mod without anybody noticing you had modded them. Just dont tell the reseller wtf.

That's a pretty fair point. I ordered from Amazon and can just send them back if I'm not into them without tinkering with a strip of foam.

Many retailers look through what you have returned to see if you have done something with them, so there is a change of them seeing that you have done something to the headphones.

there is absolutly no chance that they see any "change" because there is none after undoing the mod unless you've scratched the screws like a douche.

Just got my 558's and so far, I love them! Since I won't be returning these, I may check out that foam mod deal. Holy Jebus, I didn't think anything could make Converge's Jane Doe sound better.....until now.
